Only ten of the 30 scheduled matches in the Imperial Garage Pembroke County Cricket League were played on Saturday because of rain and or waterlogged pitches.
In Division One, all matches were played, apart from the fixture between Pembroke and Narberth, and in Division Two, the only fixture cancelled was that between Llanrhian and Carew Seconds. No matches were played in Divisions Three, Five and Six and in Division Four, three fixtures were cancelled, namely Kilgetty v Llangwm Seconds, St. Ishmaels Seconds v Pembroke Seconds and Burton Thirds v Crymych.
Division One
Haverfordwest have opened up a gap of 30 points on the chasing pack after their comprehensive win at home to Hook.
The defending Division One champions have already accumulated 116 points, Carew are in second place 30 points behind and Cresselly are snapping at their heels with 84 points.
At Haverfordwest, the Town opening batsmen, Danny Potter and Richard James, had an opening stand of 84 against Hook, with Potter scoring 45 including two 6s and six 4s.
Richard James went on to score a cultured 99 before being caught by wicket-keeper Josh Britton off the bowling of Andrew Thomas. His fluent innings included 10 fours.
The momentum was maintained by Phil Kirkby with a hard-hitting 35 and vice-captain Karl Rhead scored 14 not out, including four 6s. For the visitors, Chris Holder took 2 for 48.
Hook opening batsman Brennan Lay carried his bat in an innings of 33 not out from 116 deliveries in a Hook total of 98 all out.
It was a gritty performance by the Hook batsmen as the innings lasted 39 overs. The only other batsmen in double figures were Mike Halton with 22 and Jamie Phelps with 16.
All-rounder Stephen Phillips was accuracy personified as he took 6 for 9 in just under eight overs, five of which were maidens.
Town skipper Adrian Griffiths took 2 for 13. Carew also had a big win at home to St. Ishmaels who were bowled out for 75 chasing a Carew total of 198 for 7.
Nick Scourfield with 72 from 110 deliveries and Brian Hall with 60 from 82 deliveries scored the bulk of the Carew runs, with support from opener Ian Sefton, who scored 18, and Simon Wood, who also scored 18 before being run out.
Scourfield and Hall added 113 for the second wicket and set the scene for Carew to top the 200 mark, but three wickets were lost in the last over in an attempt to reach that figure.
All-rounder Andrew Williams took 3 for 21 in six overs and Andrew Palmer 2 for 33.
Glyn Griffiths had a defiant innings of 16 before being caught by 'keeper Adam Hughes off the bowling of Tim Hicks, Philip Cockburn scored 13 and Mushtaq Mohamed 12.
Wayne Cannon bowled a lively spell of 12 overs from the gardens end to take 4 for 23, Tim Hicks took 2 for 7 in 11 overs and Simon Wood 2 for 10. Whitland had their first win of the season away to Neyland after grafting to reach 101 for 9.
Batting was never easy on a dampish track and the batsmen responded to skipper Paul Webb's call to score as many runs as possible.
Paul Davies scored 31, including five 4s, and wicket-keeper Shane Morgan 24, including two 6s. Morgan featured in a fourth wicket partnership of 25 with Owen Edwards, and a last wicket stand of 22 between Meyrick Rowlands and Bobby Webb was of key significance as the match went on.
Neyland paceman Andrew Phillips made the most of the conditions and took 2 for 6 in eight overs in his first spell.
Surprisingly he was taken out of the attack at this stage, but he also picked up two wickets in his second spell to end with figures of 4 for 22 from 12 overs.
Greg Miller supported to take 3 for 9. Mark Lee had a superb opening spell for Whitland and claimed the first four wickets to fall.
In his first six overs, he took 4 for 12 and finished with figures of 4 for 32.
Spin twins Paul Webb and Meyrick Rowlands collected the rest of the wickets, with Webb taking 3 for 15 from 10 overs and Rowlands 3 for 13 from five overs.
The incisive opening spell of Mark Lee did the early damage, with quality batsmen such as Paul Murray and Greg Miller both being dismissed cheaply.
There was some resistance in the middle order as Phil Sutton scored 19 before being caught by David Lee off the bowling of Paul Webb and Phil Davies chipped in with 16. No other Neyland batsman reached double figures.
The local derby between Lawrenny and Cresselly ended in a draw.
After a delayed start, the match was reduced to 38 overs, but Cresselly still had time to reach a total of 181 for 4.
Openers Julian Arthur and Andrew Harris gave the visitors a good start in an opening partnership of 55. It was broken when Harris was bowled by James Buckle for 17, but Arthur went on to score 34 with three 6s and two 4s.
Adam Chandler had a breezy innings of 25 and then the icing on the cake was added in a fifth wicket partnership of 44 between Phil Williams and Ryan Lewis.
Williams finished with 29 not out and Lewis scored 54 not out with three 6s and three 4s. James Buckle was the pick of the Lawrenny bowlers and ended with 4 for 37.
The Lawrenny innings closed on a total of 131 for 8. Opener Christian Phillips scored 33 and his partner Andrew Cole senior 20.
The middle order fell away a little before Robert Williams scored a brisk 28 with a brace of sixes and fours and Chris Buckle was 10 not out at the end. He hit a six off the last ball bowled by Cresselly skipper Lyn Richards to give Lawrenny an extra draw point.
Spinner Ryan Lewis took 3 for 38, Richard Harris 2 for 17 and Lyn Richards 2 for 41.
Division Two
Saundersfoot are still looking for their first win of the season, but must have thought they were in with a chance on Saturday after dismissing Llangwm for 125.
Llangwm were 81 for 3 at one stage. Six wickets fell during which 20 runs were added and the last wicket pair put on 24 to take the total of 125. Chris Inward top scored with 31, supported by Gary Phillips on 26 and Luke Brock with 20.
For the visitors, David Parcell took 4 for 36, Chris Hawkes 2 for 11 and Kevin Sykes 2 for 37. At 88 for 3, Saundersfoot were well placed and were still in with a real chance at 96 for 5.
However, the last five wickets fell for just one run as Richard Brock took 4 for 25 and Darren Brick 2 for 38.
Steve Cole scored 31 and David Parcell 24, including two 6s and two 4s, with the only other worthwhile contribution coming from Paul Mansbridge with 16.
Lamphey also had a big collapse chasing a Haverfordwest Second total of 110 for 7. At one stage, Lamphey were 28 for 4, but were bowled out for 33 as spin twins Mathew Johns and Clive Tucker caused panic in the Lamphey middle and lower order.
Johns finished with 4 for 3 from six overs and Tucker 3 for 3 after Johnny Morgan had taken 2 for 6.
Hywel Gibbs was the only Lamphey batsman in double figures before he was caught at long off by Clive Tucker off the bowling of Mickey Phillips. Earlier the visitors recovered to reach 110 for 7 after having been reduced to 13 for 4.
Steve James led the recovery with an undefeated 54 from 111 deliveries, during which he had five lives. He was determined to rush home after the match as he thought his luck might be in in the National Lottery!
Nigel Delaney had a supporting innings of 24 before being caught by Hywel Gibbs off the bowling of Grant Cole.
Gibbs took 3 for 13 in 12 overs and Grant Cole 3 for 34.
In other Division Two matches, Johnston were bowled out for 57 in reply to a Stackpole total of 114 all out and Burton had a five wickets win at home to Herbrandston, who were dismissed for 105.
Division Four
The local derby between Cresselly Seconds and Lawrenny Seconds was reduced to a match of 25 overs per side.
Lawrenny found runs at a premium and were restricted to 54 for 8. Steven Cole with 12 and Alun Evans with 11 not out were the only batsmen in double figures as Cresselly skipper Richard Arthur took 4 for 26, backed up by Sion Jenkins with 2 for 9 and Phil James with 2 for 6.
The Cresselly fielding was top class and Mathew Lewis pulled off an acrobatic catch. Cresselly won by nine wickets upon reaching 58 for 1 after 14 overs.
Scott Arthur fell early when he was caught behind off the bowling of Ben Cole, who finished with 1 for 17, but Steve Davies, with 35 not out, and Rhydian Rees, with 17 not out, made sure of a win for the Cresselly team.
Pembroke Dock had a six wickets win at home to Lamphey Seconds, who reached a total of 93 for 9. Skipper Andrew Skeels top scored with 21, supported by Lewis Haines with 18 not out.
Spinner Jason Coles took 3 for 18 for the Dock and John Coles took 3 for 28 with his medium paced deliveries.
The Dock scored 96 for 4 and passed the Lamphey total in the 22nd over.
Skipper Peter Kingdom led the way with a captain's innings of 41, which included seven 4s. All-rounder John Davies wasted no time in scoring 29, with all but three of the runs coming in boundaries.
For the visitors, Aamir Shahad took 2 for 12.
