Division One
Cresselly snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat at St. Ishmaels despite being bowled out for the lowly total of 69. Richard Harris with 18 was the only batsman to offer resistance as all-rounder Andrew Williams took 6 for 20, supported by Andrew Palmer with 2 for 12. Tish also found it difficult to get the ball away on a rain-affected wicket and apart from Phillip Cockburn with 14, none of the other batsmen reached double figures. It was a team performance by the Cresselly bowling attack as Richard Harris followed up his gritty innings to take 4 for 20, with Lyn Richards taking 2 for 6 and Huw Neale 2 for 11. Neyland are the first leaders of Division One this season after building up a total of 230 for 4 at home to Pembroke. An opening partnership of 121 between Greg Miller and Paul Murray set Neyland on their way. Paul Murray was stumped by Colin Kaijaks off the bowling of Nigel Phillips for 60 and Greg Murray was bowled by Mathew Mitchell for 90. Mitchell also bowled skipper Andrew Miller after he had scored 53 at a run a ball and ended with figures of 3 for 6 in his three overs. Pembroke struggled in reply and were dismissed for 82 as Andrew Miller took 4 for 19, Jeremy Charles 3 for 28 and spinner Gary Lloyd 2 for 12. Daniel Scourfield batted well for his 23, while both Phil Hay and Hugh Davies chipped in with 18 apiece. Defending Division One champions Haverfordwest had the better of proceedings at Lawrenny after the home team had been bowled out for 106. Lawrenny started comfortably and were proceeding without too much difficulty, until Haverfordwest skipper Adrian Griffiths brought himself into the attack along with new spinner Nick Dyer. Bowling in tandem, the medium pace of Griffiths and the spin of Dyer accounted for eight of the Lawrenny batsmen and the last six wickets fell for just 38 runs. Griffiths ended with 4 for 19 from his 12 overs and Dyer 4 for 30. For Lawrenny, Andrew Cole senior top scored with 26 before being run out by Richard Lewis and Simon Cole scored 17. Haverfordwest cruised to a six wickets win, led by vice-captain Karl Rhead with 28 not out and left- hander Phil Kirkby with 20. Lawrenny spinner Ian Jenkins ended with figures of 2 for 7. Narberth started the season with a five wickets win away to Hook who were restricted to 104 for 9. Accurate bowling by Ollie Cook and Richard Howell accounted for seven of the Hook batsmen as Howell took 4 for 17 in 11 overs and Cook 3 for 14 in 12. Brennan Lay top scored for Hook with 23, backed up by Wayne Griffiths with 15 not out. Skipper Marc Hughes led the Narberth victory bid in his innings of 37 and received support from Richard Adams with 15 not out. The Hook bowlers did not give too much away and Narberth reached a total of 105 for 5 with seven overs to spare. Mathew Holder finished with figures of 3 for 25. Opening batsman Nick Scourfield made an impressive return to the Carew team having spent last season sidelined through injury. He scored 74 with a six and nine 4s in a Carew total of 197 for 4 at Whitland and shared a first wicket partnership of 61 with Ian Sefton, who reached 36. Brian Hall kept the momentum going with 26 and was supported at the end of the innings by Robert Hicks, who scored 19 not out, and newcomer Wayne Cannon, who was 18 not out. For Whitland, former Carew all-rounder Meyrick Rowlands took 3 for 43. Whitland's last wicket pair of Colin John and Scott Newton played out the last four overs to thwart a Carew victory bid as Whitland finished on 130 for 9. Mark Lee scored 30, Mathew Davies 25, Paul Webb 16, Paul Davies 15 and Colin John 14 not out. Carew skipper Rob Scourfield took 3 for 20 in his eight overs, Simon Wood was also difficult to get away as he took 2 for 15 in eight overs, and Wayne Cannon took 2 for 45.
Division Two
Carew Seconds had a comfortable six wickets win at home to Lamphey after the visitors had been bowled out for 76. Kerry Waters destroyed the Lamphey batting line- up in a spell of 5 for 33, supported by Seb Palin with 2 for 24. Rizwan Hassan scored 17 not out for the visitors, backed up by Jason Oatley with 14. Seventeen-year-old Adam Hughes batted well for his innings of 19 and Rhys Davies followed a good bowling spell to hold the Carew innings together with 31 not out from 108 deliveries and he showed a straight bat to all of the Lamphey bowlers. In a high scoring match at Saundersfoot, the visitors, Herbrandston, showed that they were a team to be reckoned with in Division Two after totalling 200 for 8. Herbie recovered from 127 for 7, with Luke Marchant scoring 47 not out. Earlier, the stylish Peter Spencer scored 51, before being bowled by Simon Stanford, and Gary Davies had a supporting innings of 31. Skipper Chris Parker took 3 for 40 for Saundersfoot and teenager Stanford finished with figures of 3 for 41 with his spinners. Steve Cole scored 43 on his return to the Saundersfoot team from Carew, an innings which included eight fours, wicket-keeper Ian Poole backed up with 25 and James Caine scored 21. Simon Stanford showed his all round qualities in an innings of 26 not out. Kristan Bennett took 3 for 58 for the visitors.
Division Three
Manorbier were bundled out for 43 in reply to a Maenclochog total of 116 all out. All-rounder Kevin Davies scored 24 for the visitors, supported by Mike Howe with 21 and Rhys Davies with 19. Justin Evans took 5 for 38 for Manorbier. He received support from Peter Kidney with 2 for 17. Apart from Steve Flook with 11, none of the other Manorbier batsmen reached double figures. Kevin Davies had a match winning spell of 6 for 24, with Mike Howe taking 2 for 2 and Rhys Davies 2 for 12. After doing all of the hard work, the Whitland bowlers were unable to prise apart the Hundleton last wicket pair who took the Hundleton total from 92 for 9 to 114 for 9 in the last 11 overs chasing a Whitland Seconds total of 146 all out. Sixteen-year-old Alec Pickersgill scored 26 not out, Martin Thomas 22 and Darren Rees 21. For Hundleton, Riaan Strydom took 4 for 36, Richard Allen 3 for 20 and Nigel Arthur 2 for 31. Duane Reynolds took 5 for 29 on his debut for the visitors, supported by Bobby Webb with 2 for 21. However, Jonathan Williams held things together early on for Hundleton with his knock of 35 and then the experienced Nigel Arthur with 13 not out and his partner Griffiths resisted all attempts to give their wicket away. Llechryd scored 155 for 5 against Narberth Seconds. Steve Smith with an excellent 75 not out, including three 6s and five 4s, scored the bulk of the runs for the visitors, supported by Steve Harding with 26 not out and Ray Hasler with 15. Narberth Seconds skipper Gary Hughes took 2 for 43. In reply, Narberth opener Chris Richards had a patient innings of 30, supported by Ceri Davies with 22, to take the Narberth Seconds total to 107 for 8. Kevin Evans took 3 for 20 in 12 accurate overs, Dewane Williams 2 for 1 and John Broderick 2 for 36 for Llechryd.
Division Four
Superb batting by Kilgetty skipper Graham Jenkins enabled the visitors to each 203 for 8 in their away match against Lamphey Seconds. Jenkins added 58 for the third wicket with Allen Hurst and 57 for the fourth wicket with young Jake Marsh. Jenkins found the boundary 13 times and cleared it six times before being bowled for 125 by Peter McGilloway, who finished with 3 for 40, supported by Andrew Skeels with 2 for 46. Lamphey Seconds were bowled out for 87, with Nick Johnson scoring 37 and Haydn Cole 14. Spinner Allen Hurst took 2 for 2 and three other bowlers also picked up two wickets. Jamie Morgan followed up his 19 not out to take 2 for 12 in 14 overs, Richard Prout took 2 for 16 on his Kilgetty début and Brian Slate was not too exhausted after running the London Marathon in under five hours as he took 2 for 18 at Lamphey. Cresselly Seconds were in trouble at 15 for 3 in reply to a St. Ishmaels Seconds total of 142 for 9. Mushtaq Mohamed scored 53 for the visitors, supported by Michael Cockburn with 17. Stephen Thomas ripped through the Tish batting line-up to take 5 for 24 and Jonathan Davies took 2 for 16. The Cresselly Seconds innings was turned around through an unbroken fourth wicket partnership between Adam Chandler and Stephen Thomas. Chandler had a brilliant innings of 100 not out, which included five 6s and 13 fours, and Thomas provided the ideal support with 30 not out. Michael Cockburn was the pick of the Tish bowlers with 2 for 28. Pembroke Seconds were dismissed for a disappointing total of 52 at home to Crymych, who won by seven wickets upon reaching 55 for three. Four of the Pembroke batsmen failed to score and four others could only score one run as David Deardon took 4 for 9, Will Randall two wickets for no runs, Eurig Lewis 2 for 6 and Mallory Stanford 2 for 7. Chris Thomas provided the main stumbling block to the Crymych bowlers in his fighting innings of 32. Crymych cruised to victory in reply, with Eurig Lewis 19 not out and Elgan Vittle 15. Robin Badham took 2 for 28 for the Pembroke team. The Lawrenny Seconds batsmen were on form in their away match against Llangwm Seconds. Barry Phillips provided the backbone to the Lawrenny total in an exhilarating innings of 111 not out, which included seven 6s and nine 4s, Adrian Harris had a solid innings of 40 and Steve Campbell 22. In reply, the Llangwm team reached 163 for 7. Luke Brown, with 54 not out, steered his team to safety and all-rounder Mathew Kiff supported with 30. For Lawrenny, paceman Ben Cole took 2 for 35 and Willie Morris 2 for 37. Pembroke Dock share top spot with Kilgetty after a comprehensive win at home to Burton Thirds. Excellent batting by the Dock resulted in a total of 235 for 8, with John Davies scoring 64, Nick Daley 60 and skipper Peter Kingdom 25. Graham Morris took 4 for 58 for the visitors, who were bundled out for just 78 in reply. Jason Coles and Neil Thomas were almost unplayable as Thomas finished with a return of 5 for 24 and Coles had figures of 3 for 1.
Division Five
St. Florence were bowled out for 109 at home to Carew Thirds, on the pitch that the two clubs share. The Saints were in trouble with Peter Hall and Peter Rice back in the hutch cheaply, but a third wicket stand of 53 between Ben McDonnell and skipper Steve Wilkins set up an eventual win for the home team. McDonnell contributed 34 and Wilkins 16, while Richard Jones had a useful knock of 18. All-rounder Martyn Cole took 4 for 14 for the Carew team, backed up by young Tom Davies with 2 for 24 and David Sefton with 2 for 10. Penetrative bowling and good fielding by St. Florence toppled the visitors for a total of 67. John Davies finished with 4 for 7, Richard Jones 3 for 8 and Ben McDonnell 2 for 22 to add to his three catches. Martyn Cole with 19, together with Tom Davies and Russell Knox, who both reached 11, were the only Carew batsmen in double figures. Whitland Thirds went down at home to Hook Seconds, after the visitors had aggregated 131 for 7. Nigel Badham was the pick of the batsmen with 47 as Whitland skipper Gwyn Phillips ended with 3 for 32. The Whitland team were bowled out for 75, with Chris Holder taking 4 for 14 and Hook skipper Nick Absalom 3 for 5.
Division Six
Pembroke Dock Seconds are the first leaders of Division Six following their 120 runs win away to Llangwm Thirds, who were dismissed for only 40 in reply to a Dock total of 160 for 7. Luke Murray led the way for the Dock in scoring 40, with John Moseley 37 not out at the end of the innings. Lyn Rees had a good bowling spell of 5 for 16 and also scored nearly half of his team's runs with 17, as John Coles had a devasting spell of 5 for 5 to trigger the Llangwm collapse. No play was possible for Kilgetty Seconds at home to Hundleton Seconds and for Narberth Thirds at Letterston. Saundersfoot Seconds travelled to Crymych and did quite well to dismiss Crymych Seconds for 102. Chris Hawkes took 4 for 26, Richard Thomas 33 for 6 and Grant Hardy 2 for 12. There were 24 extras in the Crymych innings, with Martyn Davies getting the most runs off the bat with 23 not out. Saundersfoot had a sound start at 28 for no wicket, but David Sayer and Llion Williams tore through the Sauninnings. Sayer ended with 4 for 27 and Willia,ms 3 for 13, including the important scalp of Roger Stanford who was leg before wicket for 20.
