Division One
Cresselly have moved into second place in the table, 13 points above Carew, following their seven wickets away win at Whitland. Whitland reached 149 for 9. All-rounder Edward John scored 43 before being bowled by Stefan Jenkins in the last over, having hit six 4s, and opener David Lee scored 39. Lee was caught by Oliver Johnson off the bowling of crafty spinner Ryan Lewis, one of three catches taken by the Cresselly teenager. Left-hander Paul Davies scored 19 and Robert Merriman helped Edward John add 37 runs for the ninth wicket. Ryan Lewis finished with splendid figures of 5 for 24 and Richard Harris gave little away in his 2 for 33 spell. A second wicket partnership of 75 between Simon Cole and Andrew Harris was instrumental in Cresselly reaching a winning total of 153 for 3. Cole had a cultured innings of 66 not out. He punished anything loose and hit three 6s in addition to his eight 4s. Harris showed excellent technique in reaching 34 and Adam Chandler had a quickfire innings of 18. Whitland skipper Paul Webb took 2 for 38. After a steady start, Lawrenny stepped on the gas in the closing stages of their innings and scored 50 runs in the last 16 minutes in a huge total of 261 for 6 at home to Lamphey. Middle order batsman Ian Jenkins anchored the innings and then opened up to score 76 not out with two 6s and seven 4s. Skipper James Buckle scored 45 before being bowled by Martin Lewis and Steven Lewis hit a six and seven 4s in his knock of 42 before being well held at long on by Robert Matthias off the bowling of Lamphey skipper Hywel Gibbs. At the start of the Lawrenny innings, Andrew Cole senior scored 35 and wicket-keeper Christan Phillips 28. Akhtar Ali bowled steadily for the visitors and finished with 2 for 32. Lamphey openers Robert Matthias and Gareth Nicholas got their team off to a good start in a first wicket partnership of 51. Nicholas scored 26, but Matthias went on to score 68 with two massive sixes and nine 4s before being bowled by Steven Lewis. Once the opening partnership had been split up, the Lawrenny bowlers made steady progress, none more so than spinner Phil Cole. Batsmen have to watch his hand carefully as he spins the ball both ways and he took 4 for 46 in his 12 overs. Another spinner, Ian Jenkins, made a difference at the end in his 2 for 9 spell. Martin Lewis retired hurt after dislocating his knee- cap when he swivelled awkwardly facing the spin of Cole and in effect Lamphey were all out with the total on 155 for 9 to give Lawrenny victory by 106 runs. St. Ishmaels scored 148 before being dismissed in their away match at Burton. Andrew Williams scored 31 before giving a return catch to Burton captain John Griffiths. Steven Williams scored 26, skipper Peter Bradshaw 22 and Phil Cockburn 19. John Griffiths ended with a return of 3 for 23, but James Venables was the main wicket-taker with the 4 for 14, backed up by John Scale who took 2 for 36. All-rounder Steve Jones top scored with 37, opener Richard Hayman had a solid 31, Gareth Bevan supported with 19 and James Venables was the only other batsman in double figures with 15. Wickets were shared out amongst the Tish bowlers. Spinner Steven Williams took 4 for 34, Andrew Palmer 3 for 20 and Andrew Williams 2 for 35. No play was possible in the top-of-the-table clash between Haverfordwest and Carew and the same situation applied at Neyland where Narberth would have been the visitors.
Division Two
Carew Seconds took an important step towards avoiding relegation after defeating the visitors Stackpole by 48 runs. Aled Davies carried his bat through the Carew innings with a battling knock of 52 not out. He grafted hard and only hit two 4s and a six in a restrained innings. Support came from Brian Hall with 16, Mathew Phillips with 12 and Phil Jones with 10. Jason Coles bowled steadily from the Gardens end to take 3 for 34 and Alan Webster took 3 for 10 as the Carew Seconds innings closed on 124 for 8. Stackpole had a disastrous start and were reduced to 16 for 5 following aggressive bowling by Tim Hicks and Steve Ive. The visitors did launch a partial recovery and managed to reach 76 before being bowled out. Rob Jones scored 23 batting at number five, Jeremy Garlick was 16 not out and Martin Alderman scored 11. Tim Hicks finished with 5 for 25 and Steve Ive took 2 for 10. The Pembroke batsmen were amongst the runs at Llangwm and scored 203 before being dismissed. Barry Evans was the cornerstone of the Pembroke innings with a well crafted 71, which included a six and eight 4s, and he added 57 in an exciting third wicket partnership with Daniel Scourfield, who found the boundary six times and cleared it twice in his knock of 49. Will Davies backed up with 18, Mark Fraser scored 14 and there were 13 runs apiece for Mathew Mitchell and Kevin Jenkins. For Llangwm, Richard Brock took 3 for 32, Darren Brick 2 for 32 and Chris Inward 2 for 38. The Llangwm batsmen found runs much more difficult to get when they replied after tea and were bowled out for 96. Dan Williams took 3 for 10, Gwyn Griffiths 3 for 56, spinner Nigel Phillips 2 for 8 and Kevin Jenkins 2 for 14 in a miserly 12 overs spell. For Llangwm, Chris Inward scored 25, Jo Jo Francis 12, with both Gary Phillips and Mathew Hughes reaching 11. Saundersfoot consolidated their mid-table position with a gutsy draw at home to Haverfordwest Seconds who built up a total of 193 for 8. Danny Potter scored 62, Karl Rhead 54, Paul Luke 18 not out and Phil Kirkby 12. Saundersfoot skipper Chris Parker took 3 for 19 and Danny Caine 2 for 53. James Caine had an important role in Saundersfoot's reply before being bowled by Micky Phillips. Caine has worked hard on his batting this season and he had an excellent innings of 73 with five 4s and three 6s. His brother Danny supported with 31 not out, Mike Franklin scored 28 and was helped by Barry Phillips who scored 15 in an opening partnership of 39. Unfortunately, Saundersfoot were just off the pace to overtake the Haverfordwest total and the innings closed on a score of 174 for 4. Micky Phillips finished with 2 for 38 for the visitors. In other Division Two matches, Llanrhian won by eight wickets at home to Fishguard, who scored 197 for 7, with Jonathan Strawbridge 50 not out. Andrew Lees, with 62 not out, and John Arundel, with 69 not out, had an unbroken third wicket partnership in a Llanrhian total of 202 for 2. Johnston were bowled out for 90 at home to Hook, with Ross Martin taking 3 for 12 and Andrew Thomas 3 for 19. All-rounder Ross Martin, who has played such an important part in the Hook success story this season, was 62 not out as the Division Two leaders won by nine wickets.
Division Three
Narberth Seconds almost pulled off the shock of the day at home to Division Three leaders Herbrandston who were held to a total of 139 for 9. Herbie skipper Alan McLlelland scored 39 with six 4s, Kristan Bennett 32, after being dropped without scoring, and Peter John 20. Richard Prout bowled very well with the ball resembling a bar of soap and took 4 for 19 in 12 controlled overs, while spinner Daniel Hughes created problems for the visiting batsmen in his 3 for 37 spell. When Thomas Richards and Karl Quartermaine were at the crease, there was every prospect of a Narberth victory. Richards scored 44 with a six and four 4s and Karl Quartermaine 39. On their departure, the Narberth team lost four quick wickets, so Gary Hughes with 14 not out and Clive Jones played out for a draw, but were alert enough to pick up an extra bonus point. Earlier, Joe Allen had scored 11 before being bowled by Kristan Bennett who took 3 for 22. The Narberth ground staff had worked hard on the ground and the pitch had been covered to allow play to start more or less on time. In another Division Three match, Burton Seconds stole a march on Llechryd in a top-of-the-table clash. Llechryd scored 198 for 9, with Steve Curran on 66. Mark Griffiths took 5 for 44 for the visitors, who won by four wickets with just over an over to spare, with Andrew Cromwell on 72 not out. Ray Hasler took 3 for 37 for Llechryd. No play was possible in the other Division Three matches between Maenclochog and Pembroke Dock, Lamphey Seconds and Camrose and Spittal, and Manorbier against Hundleton.
Division Four
In the only match possible in Division Four, Whitland Seconds clinched the title after defeating Cresselly Seconds by exactly 100 runs. The visitors scored a formidable total of 194 for 5. All-rounder Mathew Davies was the main contributor with 52, including five 4s, and was joined by Kevin Pearce, who scored 40, also with five 4s, in a third wicket partnership of 86. Simon Davies scored 32 not out and Peter Wright 29, with both batsmen coincidently also finding the boundary five times. Steve Thomas picked up two of the wickets to fall. In contrast, Cresselly Seconds struggled to score runs. All-rounder Mathew Davies would have been the man-of-the-match. His first ball was hit for a six by the aggressive Julian Arthur, who gave a return catch to Davies with the next ball. From that point, Davies ripped through the Cresselly line-up, despite the efforts of Jim Kinnear with 28 and number 10 Denzil Hughes with 22 not out. Mathew Lewis scored 15, but the Cresselly team was bowled out for 94 as Mathew Davies finished with 7 for 35, supported by Simon Davies, who took 3 for 33. Kilgetty were unable to play Llangwm Seconds, Carew Thirds' match at home to Neyland Seconds was also called off, as was the clash between Pembroke Seconds and Crymych. Lawrenny's cricketers had a bit of a rest before the Alec Colley Cup Final, as no play was possible at Hook where Hook Seconds were scheduled to play Lawrenny Seconds. Division Five
Only one game was possible in Division Five at Llanddewi Velfrey where Whitland Thirds went down by seven wickets at home to Johnston Seconds after being bowled out for 110. Whitland skipper Gwyn Phillips top scored with 30 and received support from three teenagers, as Alec Pickersgill scored 27, Iestyn Scourfield 17 and Nathan Evans 12. For the visitors, Phil Davies took 5 for 30 and Steve Mills Junior 2 for 27. In reply, Johnston Seconds scored 111 for 3. Steve Jones had a match-winning innings of 43 not out, including seven 4s, and Steve Mills senior 20 not out. Earlier, Glen Murray scored 23. Iestyn Scourfield, Lewis Owen and Scott Newton picked up a wicket each for the Whitland team. There was no play at Stackpole in the match between Stackpole Seconds and St. Florence and Saundersfoot Seconds had their away match against Haverfordwest Thirds called off as well.
Division Six
Kilgetty Seconds were without a fixture in any case in Division Six on the rotation system, but all other matches in this division were victims of the weather which meant that Pembroke Dock Seconds were unable to entertain Llangwm Thirds, the match between Hundleton Seconds and Llanrhian Thirds failed to start, as did the fixture at Fishguard where Narberth Thirds should have played Fishguard Seconds.
