SATURDAY MATCHES
Division One
Haverfordwest have taken over from Neyland at the top of Division One following their seven wickets win at Cresselly. Skipper Lyn Richards with 72 and Julian Arthur with 38 had a first wicket partnership of 91 for Cresselly, but with the exception of Simon Cole who scored 16 the remaining batsmen were unable to maintain both the run rate and their wickets. The innings closed on 172 for 8, with Simon Williams taking 3 for 45 and Mathew Johns 3 for 47. Initially, the Cresselly bowlers held the upper hand and the visitors were 53 for 3. However, Phil Kirkby with 80 not out including three 6s and eight 4s, supported by Stephen Phillips with 50 not out, took the Town total to 175 for 3. Phil James was the pick of the bowlers and took 2 for 36. Carew had a crushing seven wickets win at home to Lamphey who were bundled out for 45, with Will Silcox the only batsman in double figures with 15 not out. Darren Thomas took the first six wickets to fall and finished with 6 for 20, backed up by Simon Wood with 3 for 18. The Carew batsmen reached 49 for 3 wickets after 14 overs with Martin Scourfield 25 not out. The Lamphey bowlers put up a fight with Hywel Gibbs taking 3 for 17. In a composed innings of 55 not out with three 6s and five 4s by Ian Jenkins held the Lawrenny team together at Narberth and the visitors reached a total of 158 for 7. Skipper James Buckle provided valuable support in a hard-hitting innings of 35 from just 24 deliveries, including four 6s and earlier Simon Cole scored 16. Ben Hughes had an excellent return of 4 for 26 and posed problems for all of the batsmen. Robert Williams had a devastating opening spell for Lawrenny and reduced Narberth to 7 for 5. However, teenager Thomas Richards and skipper Marc Hughes put the home side back in the game with a sixth wicket partnership of 125. After the first five batsmen dismissed failed to score, the partnership between Richards and Hughes saved the day for Narberth and they were within eight runs of victory when the innings closed on 151 for 8. Richards had a quality innings of 67 from 129 deliveries, including seven 4s and Hughes kept the scoreboard ticking along with his knock of 60 from 98 balls. For Lawrenny, Robert Williams took 5 for 25 and Stephen Rees 2 for 36. Neyland came down to earth with a bump after being bowled out for 125 at St. Ishmaels. Paul Murray top scored with 62, supported by Greg Miller with 29. Spinner Steven Williams took 4 for 50 and there were three wickets each for Daniel Flynn and Jonathan Pawlett. Although the Neyland bowlers resisted, the Tish batsmen reached a total of 127 for 6 with Peter Bradshaw 25 not out and Robbie Thomas 20 not out steering Tish to victory after Jonathan Pawlett had scored 31. Spinner Phil Davies took 3 for 22 for the visitors and John Jones 2 for 10. Whitland were denied victory at home to Burton following a defiant last wicket partnership between skipper John Griffiths and John Scale. Consequently, the match ended with Burton on a total of 117 for 9 in reply to a Whitland total of 178 for 9. Openers Paul Webb and David Lee gave Whitland a good start with a partnership of 54 with Lee scoring 43. After a quick flurry of wickets, Owen Edwards and Colin John, restored stability with a sixth wicket partnership of 56, with Edwards scoring 34 and John 22, backed up by Shane Morgan with 19 not out. John Scale took 4 for 22 for the visitors and Kevin Roberts 3 for 45. John Venables was the main contributor to the Burton total with his knock of 34. Wickets were shared out with skipper Webb taking 4 for 21, Owen Edwards 2 for 15 and Meyrick Rowlands 2 for 37.
Division Two
Saundersfoot continued to march up the table after their comfortable win by a margin of 60 runs away to Llanrhian. The visitors were 122 for 2, but collapsed to a total of 158 all-out after spinner Gareth Davies took 4 for 36, Ben Jones 2 for 18 and Mathew Bennett 2 for 26. Llanrhian were on the rocks at 31 for 7, but Ben Jones batting at number eight scored 44 to add a degree of respectability to the total before the home team were bowled out for 98. Danny Caine, who improves with every game, took 4 for 12 and Kevin Sykes 4 for 13. The in-form Hook batsmen reached a total of 230 for 8 at Pembroke with Jamie Phelps scoring 77 and Mick Haltam 49. Kevin Jenkins who has been playing for the first team as a bowler came out of bowling retirement to take 4 for 36. Jenkins also proved the Pembroke hero with the bat and finished on 34 not out as Pembroke held on for a draw at 153 for 9. Earlier, Hugh Davies scored 24. Andrew Thomas finished with 3 for 24 for the visitors. The match was sponsored by Llanion Signs, of Pembroke Dock. Carew Thirds won by seven wickets away to Haverfordwest Seconds who had been restricted to a total of 143 for 7. Julian James scored 30 not out, supported by Richard James with 25. For the visitors, Aled Davies took 3 for 9 in 12 overs and Mathew Phillips 2 for 29. Robert Hicks and his uncle Gerald dominated the Carew innings with Robert scoring 59 including seven 4s and Gerald 35 with six 4s in a total of 146 for 3. In other Division Two matches, Johnston won by three wickets at Stackpole and Fishguard won by five wickets at home to Llangwm.
Division Three
Narberth had a comprehensive win away to Lamphey Seconds who were bowled out for 82 despite the efforts of teenager Lewis Haines with 20 and Jason Griffiths with 18. Arron Keane took 3 for 9 for the visitors, Will Davidson 2 for 6 and skipper Gary Hughes 2 for 16. The visitors reached a total of 86 for 1 in the 11th over. Andrew Williams and Hugh Jenkins had an opening stand of 56, with Jenkins scoring 27, and Williams went on to score 23 not out in an excellent innings, supported by Kyle Quartermaine, with 21 not out including five 4s. Manorbier had a narrow two wickets win away to Burton Seconds who were dismissed for 151. James Scales scored 58 for the Burton team and Neil Powling took five for 45 for the visitors. John Hughes with 51 paved the way for the Manorbier win. Mark Griffiths took 4 for 30 for Burton Seconds. Neil Halett took 6 for 34 for Pembroke Dock at home to Hundleton who were bowled out for 137, with Jonathan Williams top scoring on 51. The Dock won by two wickets on reaching 139 for 8 with Peter Kingdom having a match winning innings of 64 with 11 4s. Jonathan Williams took 2 for 18 for the visitors and Nigel Arthur 3 for 44.
Division Four
Kilgetty have retained top spot in Division Four despite only drawing their away match at Hook Seconds who were bowled out for 189. Nigel Badham top scored on 65, supported by Nicholas Absalom with 53 not out and Wayne Griffiths with 20. Anthony Bevan took 4 for 37 for the visitors and there were two wickets each for Duane Reynolds and Steve Merchant. Kilgetty were given an ideal start with an opening partnership of 60 after 15 overs between Mike Johns who scored 30 and Craig Hurst with 48. However, the middle order batsmen were unable to maintain the run rate and the innings closed on 140 for 5, with Steve Merchant 22 not out. Simon Brick took 2 for 32 for Hook Seconds. Pembroke Seconds managed to cling on for a draw in their away match against Llangwm Seconds and reached 112 for 9, responding to a total of 155 for 8. Sean Waller had an excellent innings of 64 for the Llangwm team supported by Huw Brock with 27 and Henry Thomas with 21. Spinner Paul White took 4 for 58 for the visitors and there were two wickets each for Robin Badham and Lee Jenkins. Chris Thomas 21, Colin Kaijaks 18 and Lee Jenkins 17, were the main run scorers for the Pembroke team. However, 12-year-old Jamie Kaijaks and 15- year-old Scott Duffy batted out the last six overs to earn a draw. Sean Thomas took 5 for 22 for Llangwm Seconds. Whitland Seconds were bowled out for 120 at Neyland replying to a Neyland Seconds total of 138 for 7. Scott John and Martin Jones both scored 22 for the Neyland team as Whitland skipper Stuart Harries took 3 for 29 and Simon Davies 2 for 26. When the visitors replied, Shaun Lynch with 13 and Carl Stephenson with 29, were the leading run scorers. However, wickets fell at regular intervals as Mike Tennick took 5 for 20, Peter Burton 3 for 20 and Henry Durrant 2 for 10 and the visitors were bowled out for 120. Cresselly were dismissed for 97 at home to Crymych for whom the experienced John Williams took 4 for 18, Lee Pearce 3 for 35 and David Deardon 2 for 21. Left-hander Glyn Cole had a defiant 22 for the visitors after opening batsman Steve Davies scored 20. Crymych were 81 for 8, but Jacob Lloyd with 39 not out and David Sayer, steered the home team to a narrow two wickets win. Cresselly Seconds skipper Richard Arthur took 5 for 26 and Denzil Hughes 2 for 17. The match was sponsored by Diane and Robert Phillips, of Llandissilio Post Office. In the local derby at Lawrenny, Carew Thirds were bowled out for 116 and Lawrenny Seconds reached 117 for 2 to win by eight wickets. Martyn Cole had a belligerent innings of 28 for the visitors, supported by 13-year-old Rhys Davies, with 23. John Fuller took 5 for 22 for Lawrenny Seconds, spinner Phil Cole took 3 for 39 and Alun Evans 2 for 14. An opening partnership of 107 set up Lawrenny's win, with Steve Campbell scoring 70, including a six and 11 fours and John Fuller 21 not out.
Division Five
St. Florence lost by nine wickets at home to Haverfordwest Thirds who reached 68 for 1 in response to a Saints total of 67 all out. James Ruff scored almost half of his teams runs with a fighting innings of 32 as Stephen H. Philips took 4 for 19 and Colin Slater 4 for 3, with Richard Davies picking up the other two wickets to fall. Richard Davies also led the victory bid with 29 not out, backed up by Mark White with 25. Geraint Lewis took the solitary Haverfordwest wicket to fall. In a high scoring game at Saundersfoot, the visitors, Camrose and Spittal Seconds, were swept aside despite scoring 173 before being dismissed. Gareth Loverage with 40 and Gelly James with 34 both made useful contributions for the visitors, but the turning point came when 14-year-old Simon Stanford came on to bowl his spinners. After getting a bit of tap in the first couple of overs, Stanford ripped through the Camrose and Spittal batting line up to take 6 for 42, with support from Joe Duffy and Nick Trowers, who both took two wickets. After tea it was the turn of Stanford senior to take centre stage, although the spotlight was on Dan Trowers with 82 not out, including nine 4s and four 6s. Roger Stanford opened the batting with Trowers and the pair put on 128 for the first wicket, with Stanford reaching 59, and then Saundersfoot Seconds sauntered to a nine wickets win on reaching 177 for 1. Whitland Thirds scored 113 for 7 at home to Stackpole, with Justin Watson top scoring on 46. Aaron Nicholas took 3 for 29 for Stackpole Seconds and Eleri Williams took 3 for 21. Andrew Hayes scored 41 not out and Phil Talett 23 as the visitors held on for a draw with the total being on 94 for 7. Gwyn Phillips took 3 for 26 for Whitland Thirds and Ashley Evans 2 for 24.
Division Six
Kilgetty Seconds recovered from a position of being 25 for 5 to reach a total of 135 for 9 at home to Fishguard Seconds. Mike Beynon scored 52, backed up by Kevin Davies with 28 and James Morgan with 24 not out. Ben Jones took 3 for 13 for the visitors who managed to hold on for a draw at 89 for 9, with Geraint Lewis scoring 33, despite the efforts of Rob Beynon who took 3 for 12 and Jack Bevan who took 3 for 21. Pembroke Dock Seconds scored 114 for 6 in their away match against Haverfordwest Fourths, with John Scott having a patient innings of 40 not out in 40 overs. Paul Jenkins took 3 for 19 for the visitors who won by five wickets on reaching 115 for 5. Graham Morris led the way with 37, supported by Ross Destowe with 21, Nigel Jenkins with 22 and Mike Cooper with 20. There were two wickets each for both Luke Murray and Phillip Scott for the Dock. Hundleton Seconds had an eight wickets win at home to Crymych Seconds who were held to a total of 78 for 5. Gwyndaf Rees top scored for the visitors with 27 not out as Riaan Strydom took 2 for 16 for Hundleton and Jason Oatley 2 for 14. Jason Oatley hit nine 4s in his innings of 50 not out to guide Hundleton Seconds to victory supported by Lee Lewis with 17 not out. Vernon Beynon took 2 for 22 for the visitors. Narberth Thirds declared on reaching 19 for 9 at Letterston to avoid injury to young tail enders and were defeated by nine wickets. Bank Holiday Monday matches Division One
A depleted Cresselly team were bowled out for 85 in response to a Neyland total of 146 all out to lose by 61 runs. Mathew Lewis took 4 for 24 for the visitors, whilst Greg Miller with 39 and Phil Davies with 32 were the leading scorers for Neyland. At one time, Cresselly were 11 for 3, but Julian Arthur (36) and Andrew Harris (28), gave the total respectability. Spinner Gary Lloyd took 4 for 16 for Neyland. Narberth had an emphatic eight wickets win at Burton after scoring 177 for 2. Paul Phillips (85 not out) and Wayne Howells (73 not out) had an unbroken match winning partnership of 157. Earlier, Burton had totalled 175 for 8, with Richard Scriven (58) having most of the runs, whilst spinner Nick Evans took 3 for 32. Lawrenny lost by 79 runs at home to Carew who scored 185 for 8. Brian Hall scored 75 and Lawrenny skipper James Buckle took 3 for 38. Lawrenny were bowled out for 106 in reply with Darren Thomas taking 3 for 25. Whitland had their first win of the season after restricting the visitors St. Ishmaels to 156 for 9. Andrew Palmer (41) and Steve Williams (35) were the main contributors to the total. Whitland skipper Paul Webb took 4 for 13 and then followed up with a match winning innings of 69 not out supported by Mark Lee (33 not out) as Whitland won by seven wickets. Danny Potter scored 102 not out and David Davies 109 not out in the Haverfordwest total of 235 for no wicket declared at home to Lamphey. The visitors put up a great fight and reached 153 before being dismissed with Rizwan Hassan and Gareth Lewis both scoring 37 supported by Nick Johnson (30). Spinners Clive Tucker and Mathew Johns each picked up three wickets.
Division Two
Jonathan Twigg scored a 100 before being bowled by Ceri Davies for Fishguard in a total of 205 for 3 at Carew. Carew Seconds drew the match at 138 for 7, with Aled Davies 38 not out. An opening partnership of 99 between Barry Phillips (67) and Mike Franklin (40) aided by a stylish 71 not out from Paul Mansbridge gave Saundersfoot a total of 224 for 5 at home to Stackpole, who managed to hold on for a draw at 163 for 9. Richard MacKay (35) and Allan Webster (32) were backed-up by Mathew Skeels (20 not out). Danny Caine bowled five of the batsmen and finished with 6 for 41. The match between Johnston and Pembroke ended in a tie after Pembroke scored 145 for nine with Barry Evans 69 not out. Richard James took 3 for 24 for Johnston who reached 145 for 7, with Gary Phillips top scoring with 31. Kevin Jenkins, Gwyn Griffiths and Martin Fletcher, each picked up two wickets. In other division two matches, Haverfordwest Seconds lost by 69 runs away to Llanrhian, and Hook had an exciting three wickets win in the local derby at Llangwm, after Llangwm had been bowled out for 88.
Division Three
Narberth Seconds lost by 30 runs at home to Burton Seconds who were bowled out for 88 with Richard Prout taking 4 for 18. Mark Griffiths took 4 for 20 and Dean Hayes 3 for 18 as the Narberth batsmen were bundled out for 58 by the visitors. Manorbier were bowled out for 62 at home to Pembroke Dock, with Steve Larne and Neil Hallett, each picking up three wickets. Peter Kingdom with 35 not out helped the Dock win by eight wickets. Allan McLelland (106) and Kristan Bennett (89) set- up a Herbrandston total of 326 for 3 at Lamphey. Lamphey Seconds lost by 226 runs despite the efforts of Robert John (52) in a Lamphey total of 110 all out. Narberth rugby players Wayne Jones (89), Kevin Davies (64 not out) and Jamie Bohata (42), enjoyed the afternoon sun at Maenclochog. Maenclochog ended on 239 for 4 and then had Hundleton reeling at 5 for 3. However, Jonathan Williams (58) and Stephen Williams with a patient (27 not out) in 40 overs, enabled the visitors to draw on reaching 123 for 4.
Division Four Pembroke Seconds bowled out the visitors Lawrenny Seconds for 107. Stephen Cole (35) offered the most resistance. Colin Kaijaks (56) steered Pembroke Seconds to a seven wickets win. Ben Cole took all three wicket to fall for just 10 runs. Kilgetty were held to 127 for 9 at home to Crymych. Mike Johns (60) had the bulk of the runs as David Deardon took four for 28 for the visitors. Consistent batting took Crymych to a winning total of 130 for 6, with David Deardon (28) and Eurig Lewis (23) leading the way. Cresselly Seconds lost by 74 runs at home to Neyland Seconds. Scott John (50) and Andrew Jones (48) were the leading scores in a Neyland total of 197 for 7. Simon Allen-Charles took 3 for 17 for the Cresselly team. Neilson Cole (36) and Glyn Cole (27), who hit one of the biggest sixes ever seen at Cresselly over the clubhouse, put-up a fight, but Cresselly Seconds were dismissed for 123 as Peter Burton took 6 for 25 and former Cresselly player, Mike Tennick, took 3 for 18. Openers, Jonathan Thomas (47) and Peter Wright (42), gave Whitland Seconds an ideal start away to Carew Thirds with a partnership of 94, but Martyn Cole took 5 for 34 and the innings closed on 163 for 6. David Rees (33) was the main contributor to the Carew Thirds total of 106 for 6. Whitland rugby player Rawhiti Williams took 3 for 25.
Division Five
Saundersfoot Seconds travelled to Stackpole where Aaron Nicholas (48) and Andrew Hay (24) helped Stackpole Seconds reach a total of 134 for 7. Nick Trowers took 3 for 25 for the visitors who lost by 36 runs after being dismissed for 98, with Dan Trowers (37) the only batsman to come to terms with Scott Bowen, who took 4 for 32. St. Florence won by a large margin of 107 runs at home to Whitland Thirds after building up a large total of 159 for 8. Opener Peter Hall (80 not out) had useful support form Richard Jones (23). Teenager Bobby Webb took 3 for 30 for the Whitland team who could only muster 52 in reply. Skipper Gwyn Phillips with 29 was the only batsman in double figures as Tommy Roberts, Ben McDonnell and Richard Jones each picked-up three wickets for the visitors.
Division Six
Wickets tumbled at Pembroke Dock where Dock batsman James Olyott (14) top scored in the Pembroke Dock Seconds of 64 all out. John Camani took four for 29 for the Dock team but the visitors eventually won by four wickets. Kilgetty Seconds were scheduled to play Letterston away, but the match was called off in the morning, when the pitch was deemed to be unfit for play following an inspection by County Club officials. The Hundelton Seconds batsmen were in form at home to Stackpole Thirds. Tim Phillips (65), Pete MacKay (49 not out) and Jamie Brenchley (36 not out) were the key batsmen in the home team's score of 196 for 4. Owen Cox (30 not out) guided the visitors to safety on 117 for 6, with some help from Tony McTaggert (24). Narberth Thirds lost by 90 runs away to Herbrandston Seconds who scored 158 before being dismissed, with Mike Williams (78) and Alex Galdo being the leading run getters. Richard Evans took 4 for 39 and Huw Simpkins 3 for 17 for the visitors. Narberth Thirds were bowled out for 68. Richard Evans (20), together with Simon Griffiths and Neil Rossiter, who both scored 16, were the only Narberth batsmen in double figures.
