Division One

Struggling Saundersfoot were bowled out for 125 at home to league leaders Haverfordwest. Ian Poole held the middle order together with an attacking innings of 31, which included a six and five 4s, before being smartly stumped by Huw Scriven off the bowling of Stephen Phillips. Poole was assisted by young opener Jason Llama in a third wicket partnership of 40 after Saundersfoot were recovering from being 8 for 2. The partnership was broken when Llama was bowled by Stephen Phillips for 16; David Parcell had a breezy innings of 15 before being bowled by Mathew Johns and late arrival Paul Mansbridge top scored with 38. For the second week in succession, Mansbridge was delayed because of work commitments, but he looked in no trouble at all in stroking his way to 38 before being the last man out when he was stumped by Scriven off the bowling of spinner Clive Tucker. Andrew Phillips and Danny Potter added 43 for the first wicket for the visitors before Phillips was trapped leg before wicket by Kevin Sykes for 22. However, Potter and Phil Kirkby combined in their unbroken second wicket partnership to give the Town a nine wickets win on reaching a total of 127 for 1. Potter notched up his first half century of the season in Division One in scoring 63 not out with 10 fours and Kirkby had a typically pugnacious innings of 35 from 37 deliveries. Cresselly had the better of the local derby at home to Carew, who collapsed from being 124 for 1 to reach 159 for 9 when the innings ended. Openers Ian Sefton with 78 and Brian Hall with 36 featured in an excellent second wicket partnership of 111. Hall scored 36 with six 4s before being caught by Neilson Cole off the bowling of spinner Ryan Lewis, who also accounted for Sefton when he held on to a return catch after Sefton had scored 78 with four 6s and eight 4s. Carew skipper Darren Thomas was the pick of the bowlers with a return of 3 for 36. In a remarkable game at Lamphey, it was a tale of two batting collapses. The visitors, Narberth, were sitting pretty at 110 for 2 in the 35th over and looked set for maximum batting points before a superb spell of 6 for 39 by Greg England reduced the visitors to 141 not out. Earlier Mike Scale with 53, including seven 4s, and Wayne Howells with 39 shared a third wicket partnership of 78, but Greg England triggered off the collapse and polished off the Narberth innings by taking two wickets in each of his 10th and 11th overs. Lamphey went for the runs with Daniel Sutton and Craig Nutty adding 20 for the first wicket. Sutton looked in commanding form, punishing anything loose to the boundary, but in the third over bowled by Nick Evans the Lamphey skipper was too adventurous.
