DIVISION ONE
Carew had a convincing seven-wicket win at Lawrenny after dismissing the home team for 99 with one ball of the innings remaining.
The Lawrenny batsmen found run scoring difficult against a well-balanced Carew bowling attack and wickets fell at regular intervals. Opener Chris Vincent scored 16 and skipper Robert Williams promoted himself in the order to add some impetus to the run rate. He scored 19 and there were other double figure contributions from Chris Buckle together with Andrew Cole Senior.
Teenager Steve Ive had an outstanding bowling spell to finish with 3 for 15 from his 12 overs and did not concede a run off the bat during his first six-over spell. Spinner John Canton took 3 for 23 and Robert Scourfield supported with 2 for 25.
Carew had a disastrous start and were 6 for 3, with batsmen of the calibre of Ian Sefton, Simon Wood and Tim Hicks back in the hutch.
However, Phil Jones took the sword to the bowlers and scored 62 not out from 54 balls (surprisingly his first league 50 for the Carew club) and received typically steadfast support from Nick Scourfield with 29 not out.
Simon Cole and Robert Williams were the Lawrenny wicket-takers.
Narberth staged an excellent recovery in their away match at Pembroke and reached a total of 204 for 6, with Richard Adams top scoring with 75 not out, an innings which included ten 4s. He featured in a fifth wicket partnership of 72 with Daniel James, who scored 24, and a seventh wicket partnership of 60 with skipper Ian Hughes, who reached 23 before being run out. Earlier, Wayne Howells had chipped in with 21 and Bob Simons with 16.
For Pembroke, Kevin Jenkins took 2 for 20 in his 12 overs, despite carrying an injury, and Martin Fletcher took 2 for 46.
Although five of the Pembroke batsmen reached double figures, apart from skipper Barry Evans with 34, none of the other batsmen was able to build on a decent start.
Evans held the innings together before being trapped leg before by Hughes, Jonathan Hyde had a bright innings of 19, backed up by Paul White with 16 not out, Hugh Davies with 15 and his son William with 12.
For the visitors, Ian Hughes had an amazing spell of nine overs, five of which were maidens and he ended with a return of six wickets for just eight runs. Although the other Narberth bowlers also kept the runs in check, spinner Nick Evans was the only other bowler to pick up a wicket.
Division One leaders Cresselly had an emphatic nine-wicket win at Llangwm after dismissing the home team for 91. Mark Davies was the top scorer for Llangwm with 22 as Lyn Richards took 5 for 22, supported by Steffan Jenkins and Adam Chandler, both of whom picked up a brace of wickets.
After the early departure of the prolific scoring junior Arthur, no more wickets fell as the visitors reached a total of 92 for 1. Left-hander Simon Cole was 46 not out with nine fours and skipper Richard Harris was 37 not out.
Whitland slumped to a 10-wicket defeat at Haverfordwest after being dismissed for 127 in the last over. Skipper Paul Webb and Rob Jones featured in a second wicket partnership of 59. However, when Webb was stumped by Hugh Scriven off the bowling of Tucker for 31 with the total on 71, the innings fell away, especially when Rob Jones was bowled by Mathew Johns after reaching 44 from 102 deliveries. The only other batsmen in double figures was Mathew Davies with 17.
For the Town team, former Narberth all-rounder Mathew Johns took 4 for 38 and former Kilgetty skipper Adrian Griffiths took 2 for 19.
Town opening batsmen Karl Rhead and Andrew Phillips took the home team to 128 without loss in 29 overs. Rhead scored 71 not out with ten 4s and a six and had superb support from Phillips who played just the right type of innings for the situation with 41 not out.
The Williams brothers were in form for St. Ishmaels in their away fixture at Hook. Andrew Williams scored 75 and Steven Phillips 35, in the Tish total of 211 for 5. There were also useful contributions of 36 not out from skipper Glyn Griffiths and 30 from Jonathan Pawlett.
Although Gary Martin scored 36 and Jamie Phelps 22, the Hook team were bowled out for 138 as Jonathan Pawlett took 3 for 30 and Steven Williams 3 for 34.
DIVISION TWO
Division Two leaders Lamphey were forced to cling on for a draw at Carew after Carew Seconds reached a total of 199 for 6.
Martin Scourfield and Gerald Hicks had a second wicket partnership of 96, which provided the backbone of the innings, with Scourfield scoring 55 and Hicks 41. All-rounder Aled Davies chipped in with 36 and Wesley Cole with 16.
For the visitors, Daniel Sutton took 3 for 51 and Greg England 2 for 32.
In reply, Lamphey reached 150 for 8, with the run rate getting progressively slower as the innings progressed. Daniel Sutton gave the visitors a lightning start with 32 before being caught by Aled Griffiths off the bowling of Seb Palin, and Mark Yea kept up the run chase with 47, including two 6s and seven 4s. However, the other batsmen failed to function through a combination of tight bowling and superb fielding, with Ben Evans pulling off three catches, two of which were out of this world.
Former Carew cricketer Peter Hall was the thorn in the flesh of his former team-mates with a patient innings of 32 not out, backed up in the end by Steven Vale to ensure that the visitors held on for a draw.
Aled Davies had an excellent spell to finish with 4 for 19 and Mathew Phillips took 2 for 38.
Saundersfoot were involved in an exciting drawn match at home to Stackpole after reaching a total of 169 for 9. Roger Stanford with 27 not out hit two 6s off the last two balls of the innings which ultimately proved to be decisive.
Earlier, Danny Caine had four 6s and three 4s in an attacking innings of 56 and shared in a fifth wicket partnership of 56 with Steve Cook, who reached 36.
Anthony Canton and Steve Alford both picked up three wickets for the visitors, who reached 163 for 8 in reply.
Anthony Canton showed his all round qualities with an innings of 45, supported by Alan Webster with 24, whilst both Martin Alderman and Richard Gibby reached 23.
Kevin Sykes had an excellent spell of 3 for 17 from his 12 overs and Danny James picked up two wickets.
DIVISION THREE
Lawrenny Seconds travelled to Llanrhian who won by eight wickets after the visitors had been held to a total of 150 for 9.
On an extremely fast outfield, opener David Jones scored 55, backed up by another experienced cricketer, Chris Williams, with 30, an innings which included six 4s. John Fuller also contributed 18.
For the Llanrhian team, Ray Hasler took 4 for 46 and Steve Curran 2 for 29.
Kevin Evans proved to be the man of the moment for Llanrhian with an innings of 85 not out in his side's total of 151 for 2. John Fuller and Stephen Cole were the wicket-takers for Lawrenny.
The bowlers of Narberth's Seconds were on form in their home match against Crymych as the visitors were bundled out for 53. Ben Hughes took 5 for 24, Richard Prout 2 for 7 and Will Davidson 2 for 13. The bowlers were backed up by some excellent fielding.
Narberth had little trouble in reaching 54 for 3, with both Clive Jones and Harry Allen scoring 11. Eurig Lewis took 2 for 20 for the visitors.
At Hundleton, the visitors Burtons Seconds reached 212 for 5, with Gareth Bevan 66 not out and Andrew Cromwell 44. Jason Oatley took 3 for 51 and then scored 47 in Hundleton's reply of 167 for 7. Richard Allen made sure of a draw with an innings of 38 not out.
For the visitors, John Lewis took 3for 44 and Gareth Bevan 2 for 24.
Cresselly Seconds made a bid to overtake the Fishguard total of 170 for 5, but eventually settled for a draw as Phil James 23 not out, supported by Paul Guest, took the reply to 151 for 9. Earlier, skipper Steve Davies had led the victory bid with innings of 64.
Prior to the tea interval, Stephen Meaney had an exciting innings of 43, with other useful contributions coming from Shaun O'Connor and Robert Hall.
Each of the five Cresselly bowlers picked up a wicket, with Phil James being as accurate as anyone in his 1 for 26 spell in 12 overs.
DIVISION FOUR
Pembroke Seconds have taken over from Lamphey Seconds at the top of the Division Three table following their three-wicket win away to Stackpole Seconds.
At one stage the Pembroke team were 20 for 5, chasing Stackpole Seconds' total of 117 all out, but an excellent 39 not out, including five 4s from Chris Thomas, backed up by 34 from wicket-keeper Keith Johnson and aided by 15 from Paul Rogers, enabled the visitors to reach a total of 118 for 7.
Anthony John took 4 for 37 and Richard Calley 2 for 21 for Stackpole Seconds.
There were 26 extras in the Stackpole Seconds total. Phil Tallet scored 23, Wayne Shanklin 17 and Anthony John 15. Wickets were shared out amongst the Pembroke bowlers, with David Jones taking 4 for 11, whilst both Gareth Nicholas and Danny Williams collected two wickets each.
Lamphey Seconds were without a fixture as Cardigan have dropped out of the league.
Third placed Carew Thirds had a commanding eight-wicket win away to Camrose and Spittal Seconds after restricting the home team to 107 for 7.
Neil Gregory took 2 for 20, 11-year-old Tom Davies 2 for 21, and 12-year-old Rhys Davies 2 for 14.
Russell Knox had a match-winning innings of 69 not out, supported by David Thomas with 20 and Gareth Brace 12 not out.
Whitland Seconds were home to Herbrandston, who aggregated 157 for 8 following 35 from Steve Bennett, 26 from Peter Jones and 21 from Gary Davies.
Sixteen -year-old Whitland spinner Nick Davies was the most penetrative of the home bowlers and ended with 6 for 47.
Simon Davies with 34 not out put Whitland Seconds within sight of a win, but eventually the Borderers settled for a draw, with Iwan Bevan scoring 15. Three other batsmen reached double figures and there were 39 extras.
Paul Hood took 3 for 24 and Paul Davies 3 for 37 for Herbie.
DIVISION FIVE
In the local derby at Llanddewi Velfrey between Whitland Thirds and Narberth Thirds, the Whitland team won by five wickets after Narberth Thirds struggled to reach 82 for 9. Eddie Mutch and Thomas Richards each scored 14 and Henry Probert 12, whilst the visitors had the bonus of 22 extras.
Carl Roach took 3 for 10 and Carl Stevenson 3 for 20.
Carl Roach had an excellent all round game as he followed up his bowling to score 38 not out with five 4s and a six, backed up by Steve Gerrard with 10. There were 22 byes in th Whitland total and Narberth skipper John Bowen took 2 for 9 in his 12 overs.
St. Florence suffered their first defeat of the season at home to Dinas after being dismissed for 120.
The St. Florence innings was a tale of two stands, with Chris Mead and R. P. Rice putting on 40 for the first wicket, whilst Tommy Roberts and Paul Varallo added 23 vital runs for the last wicket. R. P. Rice top scored with 55, including 10 fours and Tommy Roberts contributed 23.
Rob Cuzens took 6 for 44 for the visitors, who passed the St. Florence total for the loss of three wickets.
Rob Cuzens showed his all round qualities with 43 not out. Andrew Waddup was with him in an unbroken fourth partnership after scoring 19 not out and earlier Owain Rhys scored 16.
Tommy Roberts was the pick of the St. Florence bowlers with 2 for 29.
Pembroke Dock have taken over from St. Florence at the top of the table following their exciting two-wicket win at home to Llanrhian Seconds after the visitors had been bowled out for 146 with one over to spare.
Former Glamorgan cricketer David Lewis top scored for the visitors with 47, backed up by the experienced Ted Joyce with 41.
For the Dock, both Andrew Wood and Steve Larne picked up three wickets each.
Opener Peter Jones was the main contributor in the Pembroke Dock total of 147 for 8, reached in the 39th over. Jones hit nine 4s and a six in his excellent innings and received the requisite support from Neil Bulley with 22.
David Lewis took 4 for 44 with his leg spinners and skipper Ted Joyce was both accurate and sharp in his spell of 3 for 20.
DIVISION SIX
Kilgetty picked up their third win in successive matches after holding the visitors Llechryd Seconds to 115 for 7. The early order Llechryd batsmen laid the foundations of a decent total, but the middle order fell away and failed to capitalise on a good start.
Steve Welch top scored with 41 before being bowled by Anthony Bevan. Josh Ward was 25 not out and Ian Carter reached 23. There were two wickets each for Steve Merchant and Duane Reynolds.
Kilgetty openers Mike Johns and the left-handed Craig Hurst put on 112 for the first wicket before Johns was bowled by Mike Newell for 49. Hurst went on to reach 54 not out with seven 4s and a six as Kilgetty won by nine wickets.
Saundersfoot Seconds travelled to Crymych and built up a huge total of 221 for 6 against Crymych Seconds, with Chris Hawkes having a scintillating innings of 104. He demonstrated his full array of shots all around the wicket and hit one six together with 18 fours in his dazzling batting display.
The experienced John Austin was 32 not out and Jason Duffy 23.
Martin James picked up three wickets for Crymych Seconds and there were two wickets for spinner Richard Goodwin.
In reply, Crymych Seconds were bowled out for 99, despite the efforts of Chris Grace with 52. Barry Webb also chipped in with 21.
Wickets were shared amongst the six Saundersfoot bowlers, with three falling to John Austin and two to Chris Hawkes.
In a low scoring match at Letterston, the visitors Hundleton Seconds bowled out Letterston Seconds for 74. Billy Robb top scored for Letterston with 21 not out and Carl John was the pick of the Hundleton bowlers with a return of 3 for 18.
The visitors lost by four runs after being dismissed for 70 as Billy Robb followed up his batting to take 5 for 32 and Mike Dawes took 5 for 38.
For Hundleton, Steve John scored 25 and Carl John 18.
