The new cricket season beckons for Pembrokeshire cricketers and in the next few days affiliated clubs and individual members of the Pembroke County Cricket Club will receive correspondence about February's annual general meeting. The County Club is still looking for a new secretary 10 months after the post was vacated by the previous long-serving post holder, Bill Marchant. At present, the duties of the post are being shared out amongst other officers and members of the county executive committee, but the club would like a volunteer to get in touch as a matter of urgency. Recognising the difficulty of a new secretary being willing to carry out the vast array of duties previously undertaken by Bill Marchant, the duties of the post have been reduced by 50 per cent through delegation and are now primarily administrative in relation to committee meetings and correspondence. Further information about the new role of the secretary can be obtained from the County Club chairman, Philip Thomas, on (01834) 860376 or 07775 953492, or from Bill Marchant on (01646) 600974. Nominations for a new vice-chairman of the club will also be invited as the current vice-chairman, David Morris, of Dinas, will take over the chair from Philip Thomas, of Cresselly, who has acted as County Club chairman for the last three years. It is understood that Trefor Evans, of Whitland, is one of the candidates likely to be in the frame. Another key role will also become vacant as former county chairman, Bob Flute, has decided to stand down as child welfare officer because of ill health. In addition, Graham Morris, of Haverfordwest, is standing down as junior cricket league organiser and could be succeeded by his club colleague, Micky Phillips. The official handbook of the County Club is being compiled for the new season and Bill Marchant would like to hear from any club where there has been a change of secretary. Details of the new secretary's name, address and telephone numbers together with an email address if any should be submitted to Bill Marchant, the editor of the handbook, as soon as possible by writing to him at Cheriton, Rosemarket, or by telephoning (01646) 600974.
