The annual general meeting of Pembroke County Cricket Club will be held at Haverfordwest Cricket Club on Wednesday, February 25, at 7.30 pm.
After 17 years in office, Bill Marchant has decided to stand down as secretary of the County Club.
The executive committee will make a presentation to Bill Marchant at the meeting to recognise his exemplary service.
Cricketers wishing to make a donation should forward a cheque to the county treasurer, Mr. Roly Edward at The Gables, White Hill, Cresselly, Kilgetty. Cheques should be made payable to 'Pembroke County Cricket Club'.
Since the formation of the County Club in 1947 there have only been four secretaries. Unfortunately, at present, no nominations have been received to fill the vacancy created by Bill Marchant's resignation.
A new president will also be appointed at the meeting to succeed the late Cyril Venables who died whilst holding office last season.
Stanley Richards, of St. Ishmaels, who served as president from 1998 to 2001 will be appointed for a second term at the meeting.
John Harries, of Hundleton, who did such a good job collating results and preparing league tables last season, has agreed to fill the vacant office of assistant secretary and former chairman Bob Flute will be appointed to the new post of child welfare officer.
All other officers will be unchanged as will the composition of the various committees.
There will be the usual attempts to tinker with the rules, including a proposal by vice-chairman David Morris and former chairman Bill Carne that all league matches shall commence at 1.45 pm throughout the season.
At present, all matches start at 2 pm during May, June and July and at 1.45 pm during August.
The proposal is likely to result in a mixed reaction from cricketers.
Many players, umpires and administrators will welcome such a change but it could cause problems for players who work on Saturday mornings.
