The Southern Country Rock band 'Cathead Dooly' from Macon, Georgia, USA, head into Pembrokeshire at the end of the month with an increased line-up from the five 'cowboys' who delighted the county's music lovers last year.
Hitting the trail this year with Aubrey Ray (rhythm and vocals), Brian Whitehead (lead, flat-top guitar and vocals), Keith Dean (pedal steel guitar and vocals), Chuck Spivey (bass guitar) and 'Dr Skins' Bruce Allen (drums and vocals) is keyboard player Francis Peed. Francis, whose pedigree in Country Music is every bit as special as the rest of 'Cathead Dooly', is really looking forward to his first trip to Pembrokeshire.
"The band had no hesitation in agreeing to come back for the second successive year as they really enjoyed the special welcome from Pembrokeshire people last year. I sure am looking forward to playing in West Wales," he said.
'Cathead Dooly' have just released their new CD with all the tracks of their own composition. Some songs were featured in their concerts last year, but now include keyboard and additional backing instruments, making the whole recording something quite special.
Needless to say, perhaps, CDs will be available for purchase during the band's tour.
The added bonus for music lovers is that sharing the stage and performing with them is Pembrokeshire's own Annmarie Riley. The band struck up a real friendship with Annmarie during her visit to Georgia and her interpretation of both their style of music plus 'soul sound' has really endeared her to them.
'Rebel Rock and Riley' concerts are being staged at the Follies Theatre, Folly Farm, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 31, as part of the Texaco Charity Weekend of Family Entertainment in aid of NCH Cymru (box office, tel. 01834 812731). In addition, Texaco and the Western Telegraph are supporting the band's other events, at Tenby's De Valence on Wednesday, June 2, in aid of Tenby Lifeboat (tel. 01834 842285), and at Haverfordwest Showground with the 15-piece Suburban Soulband as support, in aid of both Withybush Hospital of Friends and Pembroke School Special Learning Centre on Friday, June 4.
The Haverfordwest 'Hoedown' promises to be something a bit extra, as it is preceeded by a 'pig roast' at 6 pm with a Cavalcade of Celebrities arriving by 'limo' and Harley Davison motorcycles. Yee-ha!
