Meet our front page bride - Megan Arthur! (Pics. Malcolm Richards Photography)
Megan Jenkins and Scott Arthur met at Cresselly Cricket Club when Scott was a new player for Cresselly. They have been together for nine years. Scott proposed on Christmas morning 2013 when Megan’s dog Jess came in to greet her wearing the ring on her collar. Sadly, the romantic proposal didn’t go quite to plan, as Megan was still half asleep and didn’t notice the ring until Scott got down on one knee! Here Megan shares their wedding story.
The ceremony
Friday, August 21, 2015, at Jeffreyston Church.
Theme
We are both mad about cricket, so our theme was countryside village cricket. Our table names were areas around the Cresselly cricket pitch, our table plan was a homemade scoreboard, our sweet trolley was also a scoreboard and we had hay bales and hessian all around the place too!
Planning
We pretty much started straightaway. Once we decided on our date, we were able to visit wedding fairs, but there was just so much choice. I loved going to them, but Scott wasn’t quite so keen! We went to our first one at Plas Hyfryd and then one in Haverfordwest, followed by one at Carmarthen showground. We booked our transport there, as well as DJ and photobooth, plus had a postbox for cards.
Music and hymns
Our hymns were Love Divine and Shine Jesus Shine. During the signing of the register, the Clio String Quartet from Cardiff played songs from Cold Play and Take That. When guests arrived at the reception venue, a friend, Paul Regimbal, sang.
Reading
My brother Sion, who was an usher, read a poem.
Rings
Scott wasn’t too fussed on his ring, so he chose a titanium plain band, while my ring, I wanted it to match my engagement ring and so they fit together in a v-shaped sparkle.
Wedding party
Chief bridesmaid was Amy Bayley (friend), while bridesmaids were Emma Williams, Georgia Anteney-Hoare and Katy Izzard (friends) and Katie Croft (cousin). Flower girl was Neve Davies (groom’s niece).
Best men were Alan Davies (groom’s brother-in-law) and Nick Davies (friend), while ushers were Sion Jenkins (my brother) and Mike Williams (friend). Page boys were Griff and Arthur Jenkins (my nephews).
Neve and Griff were also ring bearers.
Gown
A Blue by Enzoani ‘Garoua’ shiny Mikado ivory high neck ballgown, matched with a wide ribbon Mikado belt, with lace appliqué at the waist and cut-out lace details at the neckline and back from Cariad Bride, Swansea.
Hair and make-up
The bride, bridesmaids and mother of the bride had their hair done by Sarah in Andrew Price, Tenby, and make-up by Amrie Holistic Beauty.
Bridesmaids’ dresses
Gorgeous floor-length chiffon royal blue dresses with one strap, purchased online from Light in the Box. The flower girl looked splendid in an ivory knee-length dress, with royal blue ribbon.
Groom and groomsmen’s attire
Charcoal tailored suits were hired from Dress for Occasions in Haverfordwest. Geraint there was so helpful and easy to work with. The groom wore a cream patterned waistcoat and cravat, while the groomsmen wore royal blue patterned waistcoats and cravats.
Reception
A marquee at Broadway Country House. We had 112 guests altogether, with speeches first, followed by a sit-down three-course meal. The day flew and at night, we had an additional 100 guests who enjoyed dancing to Pembrokeshire Sound and Room 42. We had a pig roast buffet. We also hired Shake It Pretty, the cocktail bar, which everybody loved, as well as lots of fun in the photobooth.
Favours
Heart Welsh cakes made by my cousin, Ieuan Jenkins, of Mamgu Cakes.
First dance
Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud followed by Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance (Pembrokeshire Sound and Band Room 42).
Flowers
My bouquet and those of the bridesmaids, buttonholes and flower girl’s wand were made by The Flower Girls in Saundersfoot. They did an arrangement for the cake too. My mum grew lots of flowers which made up the table decorations, church decorations and around the venue.
Photographer
Our photographer was Malcolm Richards, who is Scott’s uncle, and our videographers were Scott’s friends from uni, who run a business in London.
Cake
We had an amazing three-tier ivory cake, embellished with pearls and our initials on the middle tier, made by family friend, Angela Harden. We had three different flavours. We also had cup cakes on the side. There were real flowers in between each layer and on the top. My dad engraved a log with our initials on, which the cake sat on.
Invitations
I made it all myself with some help from my mum, Scott and my bridesmaids. It had a vintage look with brown and cream craft card. We included some lace and hessian and also small wooden hearts, all held together by paper cricket bats. The order of services were similar too.
Transport
We had the fabulous Sydney, a campervan, hired from Retro Retreats. Sydney made our day extra special and we liked that it was different.
Hen and stag nights
I had three hens, one in Bath, a bus tour around Pembrokeshire dressed as farmyard characters and a cricket one in Cresselly, while the stag went to Cardiff to watch cricket and then back around Pembrokeshire for a mini tour.
Honeymoon
We went to Majorca for five days, which was lovely, before heading back to work, but Scott has treated me to a trip to Mexico as our wedding present.
Favourite moment of the big day?
The whole day was amazing and we both loved every minute of it. It is really hard to pinpoint a particular moment, but we will always remember saying our vows and me becoming Mrs. Arthur with all our special family and friends around us.
