Billed as the most difficult triathlon in Wales - the Long Course Weekend returns to Tenby this weekend, featuring a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile marathon. The event starts with The Wales Swim from the North Beach at 6.45 pm tonight (Friday), with the Taffkids swim kicking-off proceedings from 5 pm, with children from all ages that finish receiving both a medal and T-shirt. Tomorrow (Saturday), the Wales Sportive cycle commences from the Salterns at 8.30 am, while Sunday sees the Newton Wales full and half marathons take place, from 10 am, in Tudor Square. "Involving over 5,000 athletes from 42 different countries, this has become one of the biggest sporting events in Wales," said organiser Matthew Evans, of Activity Wales Events. "With an incredible atmosphere, global television coverage and phenomenal triathlon action, Tenby is defintely the place to be for this spectacular spectator sport this weekend," he continued. With The Wales Swim, Sportive and Marathon being events in their own right, individual medals took the form of a jigsaw piece. "With some athletes having competed for four years it was time for a change," explained Matthew. "Fortunately we have a very creative team and this year's medals will still have a linking strategy, but are very different. It is important for us to keep innovating at races and delivering a better experience year-on-year. "One of the off-season focuses this year was the medals and the team have really delivered!" he added. The event's special expo is also up and running from Friday at the De Valence Pavilion, for those who want to get their hands on some active gear.
