Sir,
Re: The Narberth Old School Pupils Reunion on July 5 at Llandissilio.
It is now definitely countdown time and acceptances are being returned daily and comfortable enough for me to keep my 'grey matter' active, although I am not as old as some of those who will be attending, particularly those of the 1930s classes. There is one 'young' lady interested in attending, but has not yet committed herself, of the Class of 1928. I hope she makes it and brings along some of her old school photographs. The lady is Mrs. Sylvia Cole (Williams in her school days), of Kesteven Court, Carew. My apologies for any problems with this letter; it is being typed on a word processor while I am perched on the edge of a chair with my left foot elevated after an accident last week which kept me in Glangwili Hospital for four days. Yes, it's countdown time for me too, but I still hope to be at the reunion on July 5. Old pupils attending are encouraged to bring along any old photos they may have, but also a camera for present day photos. Tom Francis (second head), his daughter and his nephew will be attending, as well as the two daughters of Sam Evans (third head), with Catherine coming over from Canada. Re. the Margaret James mentioned in my previous correspondence. Many people had made enquiries as to her whereabouts. Many of your readers came up with the answer from far and wide. A very much travelled Margaret was traced to Winchester. By a strange coincidence, both her parents are here in the local parish church cemetery. Re. a recent 'Blast from the Past' photo showing some of the older group of Sybil Noott's young ladies (sent in by John Handicott). Many of the young ladies were recognised - amongst them Gwen Duckfield and her big pal, Eva Beynon. Gwen's dad (?) was the great Glamorgan cricketer, Dick Duckfield, who regularly brought a county team to Narberth. Gwen has returned to Pembrokeshire after many years in the London area and, again, will be attending the school reunion. Eva Beynon went on to star status as a singer with the Henry Hall Band and broadcast regularly on radio, mainly the BBC. I think that brings my memo to an end. I hope that it can be used in some form so that a little reminder can be made to those who intend attending the reunion. It may well be my last as the organiser.
