Town councillors have urged people to attend a local meeting held by SWAT (Save Withybush Save Lives) on Monday, May 8, at Augustus Place Community Centre. The meeting has been arranged to discuss the proposals regarding the possible closure of the hospital in Haverfordwest. The group will also be leading a demonstration on May 17, when they will walk with banners from Withybush down to County Hall and board coaches to travel to the Welsh Assembly Government offices in Cardiff. Meanwhile, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council that she "wholeheartedly" supported local AM Christine Gwyther's views on hospital services in West Wales. "There are simply too many boards and it's costing millions to sort out," she said. Her colleague, Mayor-elect, Clr. Trevor Hallet, believed that the county needed to retain what it's got, rather than building a 'super hospital'. A public meeting to discuss acute services in West Wales will be held at Tenby's De Valence Pavilion on Wednesday, May 10, with further meetings also to be held at various locations across the county.
