Councillors in Tenby have elected to see a lot more of each other - after a trial period caused separation amongst the chamber!
Members of Tenby Town Council agreed to trial holding meetings every three weeks, rather than fortnightly, from the end of January. Hhowever, some councillors called for discussions to revert back to fortnightly, almost immediately.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, the majority of councillors agreed that the meetings should go back to every two weeks, after the trial period ended.
“Personally, it didn’t bother me at first whether we met fortnightly or not, but I don’t think discussion on the planning application side of things has worked, as we’ve struggled to be quorate for the separate meetings,” remarked Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
Clr. Dr. Peter Easy, though, felt the planning sub-committee meetings had worked particularly well, as it afforded councillors more time to discuss plans that came before them.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that she would be glad to return to fortnightly discussions.
“I never wanted the three-weekly trial in the first place. We agreed to have a go and it’s not working. How can you be a council when you only meet once a month!” she stated.
“We lack continuity when we meet every three weeks, and keep on top of things every fortnight,” said Clr. Mrs. Rossiter.
“If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it!” she added.
The council’s next meeting will now take place on May 31.
