The organisers of a summer event held at Tenby harbour have been criticised by local councillors for asking them for financial support.
Correspondence from the organisers of Pembrokeshire Fish Week - an event that is part-funded by the Welsh Government and organised by Pembrokeshire County Council - came before members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting last week.
The county council's food development officer, Kate Morgan, explained that the festival, which runs throughout the county in the last week of June, has traditionally held a community event on its first Sunday on the harbour and harbour beach in Tenby called 'Music and Mayhem' for visitors and families to enjoy.
To assist the organisers in continuing this at the harbour, Mrs. Morgan asked the town council if they would consider making a financial contribution towards the 2013 event to help with the rising costs.
She added that the current costs of putting on the event at the harbour were over £2,500, which included the cost of entertainers and facilitators, demonstrators, demonstration facilities, marketing, publicity and ingredients.
Responding to the letter, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that the costs seemed an "extraordinary amount" and she couldn't understand why it was so high just to put on one event at the harbour.
"I think the county council originally had more funding for the festival, but really they should be trying to get more sponsorship for the event, rather than asking local councils to contribute to the costs of it," she said.
Clr. Mrs. Kerri Durham agreed, and said that she couldn't understand either why the authority was asking for financial support.
"None of the other organisations that put annual events on down the harbour ask for funds, they generate everything themselves," she added.
