Well-known local council figure, Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes, has praised the actions of the emergency services this week for their prompt and efficient response in dealing with a fire at her home at the weekend.
Clr. Mrs. Hayes and her husband Ronald had a lucky escape on Saturday after a blaze broke out in their kitchen at 1 Belle Vue, The Ridgeway.
At approximately 12.45 pm, the pan Clr. Mrs. Hayes was using to fry mushrooms caught fire and the overhead extractor fan drew the flames up causing the fire to spread to the ceiling.
Firefighters from Tenby rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control.
Fortunately neither of the couple were hurt in the incident, but as a precaution, 71-year-old Mr. Hayes was taken to hospital by ambulance for a check-up.
"The fire brigade were superb, they were here in no time at all, and I cannot speak highly enough about them," Clr. Mrs. Hayes told the Observer afterwards.
"It could have been a lot worse, we have still got our house and are still alive," she continued.
"Everybody has been tremendous and the offers of help we have had have been tremendous," she added.
