County Councillor for the Narberth Urban ward, Cllr Marc Tierney has told members of the Town Council that there was not much left to ‘cut back’ on in the town, in terms of what Pembrokeshire County Council provided, as budget plans are being made for 2023-24.
At this month’s meeting of Narberth Town Council, Cllr Tierney told members that he had recently attended a seminar in relation to the Local Authority’s budget, which discussed the difficult financial situation they are in and the next round of cuts they will have to make to fill the gap in the budget.
Town councillors said that they felt that Narberth was the ‘forgotten town’ of Pembrokeshire, with weeds growing in pavements, broken benches, a lack of parking, gridlocks in the centre of the town highlighted by members.
Cllr Tierney said that a full Council meeting was due to be held on December 15 which would give a better idea of what they will be looking at, but he agreed that there was not much left to cut back on in Narberth.
In relation to the new Library, he said that the first stage of the funding application had gone through and they are now into the second stage. If successful it is envisaged that the new Library will be open this time next year.
