Workers at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel who learned over Christmas that they would lose their jobs following the news that the premises was to close, have vowed to continue to fight for monies that they say they are owed.

Staff at the Pembroke Dock venue said that they were ‘shocked and saddened’ to discover the day after Boxing Day that the facility would shut its doors in the New Year, and were left dismayed over the lack of support afforded to them from the the hotel’s owners, Kullar Hotel Group.

In a statement, the former employees said that they would be seeking more information from the hotel’s owners, about money they are due.

“We have all met up as staff recently and have sent a letter to the owners for further information on why we have all been dismissed and monies owed,” read the statement, explaining that they were hoping for a prompt response from the owners so the issue could be resolved before it was taken further.

“We thank everyone for all the kind words of support that we have received and the local businesses that have offered many of us jobs,” they added.

A Facebook page at ‘KFmoneyowed’ has also been set up by businesses in the area who claim that the hotel group owes them money.

County councillor Joshua Beynon, who represents the Pembroke Dock Llanion ward, has called on the owners of the hotel to ‘do the right thing’ and pay what is owed, stating that the former staff ‘deserve more than the way they have been treated’.

“Staff have received no written communication regarding the closure of the hotel or the loss of their jobs,” he said.

“They are owed redundancy pay, holiday pay and pay in lieu, which they are now fighting to get hold of.”

Clr. Beynon went on to say that he had met with the owners of the hotel since the sudden closure, and they informed him of their intentions to turn the building into a residential care home, something which the Kullar Hotel Group have since refuted.
