At the recent AGM of Saundersfoot Community Council, Clr. Mike Wainwright was nominated as chair, and he accepted the nomination and made his Declaration of Office.

Clr. Dean Ludlow was nominated as vice chair, and he accepted the nomination.

Clr. Wainwright then made an address to his fellow councillors: “Thank you all for voting for me as your Chairman for this year, it makes me very proud. I’d like to thank Martyn and Dean for proposing and seconding me, and you all for having the faith and confidence in me to do a second term of office.

“As far as I am aware this will be the first time in the history of Saundersfoot Community Council that the existing chair has been asked to do a consecutive year of office, and for that I am very proud,” he continued.

“We have lost a lot of talent recently, and we only have three of the last Council in office, we are still two Councillors short, which we will be looking to co-opt shortly.

“We seem to have been blessed with plenty of new talent and ideas, and once we realise Councillors’ strengths then we will be able to serve the village at our very best.”

On recent engagements, Clr. Wainwright reported that on Saturday, April 9, he had the honour of bowling the first wood to mark the opening of the new season at Saundersfoot Bowling Club.

“Although a few metres short of the jack, I was told my line was good, every little helps!” he said.

“I then made a short speech to thank the Chairman, Myrddin Dennis and President, Ann Lewis for asking me to open the Green, and I wished them a sporting and successful season.

“Refreshments and sandwiches were provided afterwards, and the Bowls Chairman told me that they were organising get together social evenings on a Friday night and they have been very successful in attendance and recruitment, so good luck to them all.”

Clr. Wainwright said that he had also attended a meeting that was held in the Marine Centre of Excellence by kind permission of Michael Davies, for Saundersfoot Community Council, Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism and the Harbour to discuss and make arrangements for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.
