A senior member of Narberth Town Council has fired a broadside after reading comments against him in the press.
Former Mayor, Clr. Colin Williams, said that he was concerned to read comments in the paper which had been issued following a debate at the previous month's council meeting.
"I asked the advice of fellow councillors and I listened to them, but the following week, I had a smacking in the press," Clr. Williams said at Tuesday night's town council meeting.
The matter arose after Clr. Williams asked his colleagues for their thoughts on making the town's Spring Gardens two-way to traffic.
"If someone has got something to say, they should have said it here," said Clr. Williams.
"Nobody had a go at the idea," he continued. "I object to the remarks in the press that referred to me as an idiot. It is very cowardly not to say it to my face. If someone has something to say, it should be discussed in this room. I object to extra comments being sent to the press."
Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers felt that all councillors had enough time during the discussions to give their views.
Added Clr. David Norcross: "As chair, if the Mayor thought there was any impropriety, then perhaps they can have a word with the said councillor so it doesn't happen again."
