Town councillors have backed the views of the Tenby Conservation Forum who want to see a trial of how traffic management will work as part of a new enhancement scheme in the centre of the town.
Clr. Mrs. Sandra Williams told her colleagues at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday night that she had attended a recent meeting of the Tenby Conservation Forum who intended to write to the county council to ask if sections of Tudor Square could be boarded off to see if the enhancement plans were workable and practical.
When plans were originally announced for the enhancement scheme by Pembrokeshire County Council and the developers, the town council asked for a similar request, but was turned down.
"We made the same request persistently at the beginning and we were persistently turned down," said Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas felt that the town council should support the Conservation Forum's views.
The town clerk also said that Mr. Rhodri Jenkins, south area maintenance manager for the county council, was willing to meet with councillors to update them on the plans whenever he was on site and he was also trying to organise a meeting with the town's two county councillors.
Councillors had recently voiced their concerns and those of many shopkeepers in the town that the current work taking place in Tudor Square would disrupt business if it continued into June ahead of the busy summer season.
