Pembrokeshire County Council is to undertake remedial work at The Norton, Tenby, following the recent landslip.

The work, to be undertaken by Thyssen Geotechnical, will start on May 14 and should take around 10 days to complete.

It will include: clearance of vegetation and the 'scaling' of the slope local to the slope failure; placement of a mesh over the failed area - the surface of the mesh to be over-sprayed with a mulch to promote vegetative growth; and rock bolts over isolated areas adjacent to the slip area.

Huw Roberts, the council's director of transportation and the environment, said that the contract would be the first phase of remedial work to the slope to safeguard its condition during the summer.

"We plan to review the stability measures over the summer and carry out further work, as required, in the autumn," said Mr. Roberts.

He added that an appraisal of the highway support structure above the slope area indicated no current concern over the stability of the road, although the council would continue monitoring.

In the past, the county council has taken a number of steps to manage the problem, including the erection of barriers and a regular monitoring regime.
