Civil parking enforcement across Pembrokeshire will come into force from early next year, it was agreed at a meeting of the county council's cabinet members last week.

The implementation of civil enforcement regulations will enable the authority to enforce all parking contraventions within the county, with the management and enforcement of on-street parking undertaken by officers of the county council.

Implementation of civil parking enforcement in Pembrokeshire has from the outset been linked to a review of car parking charges by the authority, and with new parking charges implemented at the start of the month, the county council believe that combining the management and enforcement of both on and off-street parking will provide considerable operational and community benefits.

Tenby and Narberth are both towns in the county that have seen a spate of illegal parking cause problems throughout their towns over the past few years, something which a local county councillor believes will now be cleaned up.

"Illegal parking issues in Narberth have caused major problems for the town in recent years, and by adopting this civil parking enforcement, the county council are showing that they are taking a stance on this issue," said Clr. Wynne Evans

"Motorists need to realise that the yellow lines on the road are there for a reason," he remarked.
