The vacancy on Tenby Town Council caused by the resignation of Mrs. Marilyn Cray is to be filled by co-option, members agreed on Tuesday night. Mrs. Cray resigned as one of the North ward representatives on the council in September. At Tuesday night's meeting, the clerk, Andrew Davies, informed members that the statutory period required for 10 or more electors in the North ward to call for the vacancy to be filled via an election had expired. "The 14-day period expired on Monday and there has been no request for an election," explained Mr. Davies. "The vacancy can now be filled by co- option." Under co-option, those interested in joining the council are asked to write-in giving a little of their background and their reasons for wishing to become a member. The applications are then considered by the council and the best candidate chosen. To be considered for election to the town council, prospective candidates must either be registered as a local government elector for the town or during the whole 12 months prior to application occupied as owner or tenant land or other premises within the town. Alternatively, their principal or only place of work during the last 12 months has been in the town or for the last 12 months they have lived in the town or within 4.8 kilometres (three miles) of it. Anyone interested in becoming a Tenby town councillor is asked to write, in the first instance, to the clerk, at Tenby Town Council, De Valence Pavilion, Upper Frog Street, Tenby by Friday, October 26. Councillors anticipate selecting the most suitable candidate at their meeting on Tuesday, October 30.
