Two areas in Tenby that were highlighted for street lighting reduction, will remain lit after town councillors made their concerns known.

Pembrokeshire County Council is reducing the hours of street lighting across the county in a bid to cut down on carbon emissions and save at least £200,000 a year on energy bills, with certain areas seeing their street lights turned off from midnight to 5.30 am as part of the reduction programme.

When discussing the matter at a recent meeting, Tenby councillors agreed that they were concerned that part of Warren Street (from the police station down) was included in the street lighting reduction scheme, and also Castle Hill.

At their latest meeting on Tuesday night, though, correspondence came from the county council's highways asset manager, Robert Evans, responding to the request to reconsider those areas.

"Investigation of the business types in Warren Street and nearby suggest that it would be reasonable to extend the illuminated section as far as the junction with Greenhill Avenue," he wrote.

"It was always our intention that Castle Hill should remain lit throughout the hours of darkness because of access to the lifeboat station, but unfortunately we had included this section in our description of Castle Square," which may have caused confusion explained Mr. Evans.
