Tenby Walled Town Residents' Association (TWTRA) held a recent meeting to which they welcomed Mr. John Price from Pembrokeshire County Council's transport department.
Afterwards, the TWTRA issued the following press release.
Mr. Price was a welcome visitor since for at least the last 10 years he has been charged with addressing Tenby's fluctuating traffic and parking problems.
When asked why the county council had declared the Pedestrianisation Scheme a 'success' even before it had finished, he seemed unaware that this was the case. His defence was that Clr. Brian Hall must have seen early survey results before council officers saw them.
Richard Walker, chairman of TWTRA, reminded the meeting that, despite requests, the PCC had still not come forward with any list of criteria that would define 'success'.
When asked whether the delayed plans for residents parking in the harbour area would go ahead despite the fact that the Residents' Association had requested a complete review of parking within the town walls, Mr. Price replied: "The cabinet passed it before you existed, so it'll start in January for a 12-month trial."
When asked whether the Residents' Association could ever present a credible argument to the county council, his reply was: "Only if you can prove that it represents the views of lots of people."
Afterwards, Mr. Walker commented: "We are very grateful for Mr. Price's attendance. It gives us a great insight into the county council's thinking, particularly in the area on 'consultation'. We now know why Caldey residents, some of whom keep cars in the harbour area, weren't informed of the harbour scheme. By definition, Caldey residents disqualify themselves from any entitlement to 'frontage parking'. As Mr. Price said: "You don't ask the people who you're not going to offer it to."
Mr. Walker added that the next open meeting would be on Monday, October 14, at 7.30 pm in the De Valence.
He hoped for a large turnout as this would be the last opportunity for suggestions for the association's formal submission to the county council prior to the consultative meeting on November 1.
