Tenby Town Council needs to be more proactive in its actions to access funding from a 'regeneration scheme', a local councillor claimed this week. Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of the council, during discussions on their working in the future with the Pembrokeshire Destination Management plan partnership to find ways of promoting the resort further, Clr. Mike Evans told his colleagues that funding from a county council 'regeneration project' scheme was still available to access. "This council has not accessed the funds from this scheme. We need to be more proactive in our actions," he stressed. Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that now the busy summer season was over, the town council could focus on that matter and get an idea of costings for such tourism matters and come up with more ideas to take to Pembrokeshire Tourism. At the last meeting, the Mayor said she would like to see Arriva Trains approached again to see if there were any funds to spend on the town's train station, after learning that the Haverfordwest facility recently received a £31,000 facelift. The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, told members that he had received a response from Arriva Trains Wales community affairs manager, Geraint Morgan, who stated that the firm was only able to carry out the recent refurbishment to the Haverfordwest station as it had a ticket office and that there were no proposals for further enhancements of the Tenby station, but that he would approach his head office and propose a meeting on the matter.
