The leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. John Davies, has expressed dismay at the settlement his authority has received from the Welsh Assembly Government for the coming year.
"We are very disappointed with our settlement" he admitted. "With the pain of inflation currently running at a rate of over four per cent, Pembrokeshire gets less than a three per cent increase in its settlement.
"It is now down to the officers and elected members of the authority to work through this challenge and come up with a realistic council tax for next year.
"Fortunately, Pembrokeshire is better placed than many other local authorities. We are acknowledged as a low financial risk and we have the lowest council tax in Wales - possibly in the whole of the UK.
"We need to look carefully now to balance next year's Council Tax against this very poor settlement, mindful of the current financial burden being imposed on households."
