Members of the Armed Services together with representatives of the Haverfordwest branch of the Royal British Legion gathered outside County Hall in Haverfordwest on Monday for a flag-raising ceremony.

The ceremony marked Armed Forces Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday).

Armed Forces Day, held for the second time this year - is an opportunity for the nation to show support for its servicemen and women - from veterans to serving soldiers and their families.

Since Monday and in common with other local authorities throughout the country, Pembrokeshire County Council has been flying the Armed Forces Flag on one of its four flagpoles.

At Monday's ceremony, Pembrokeshire County Council's chairman, Clr. John George, paid tribute to the Forces, noting that since the Second World War more than 16,000 British servicemen and women have died in action around the world.

Rev. Huw George, the chairman's chaplain, led the gathering in prayer.

Those attending the ceremony included members of the 14th Signal Regiment (EW); 224 Squadron (Pembroke Yeomanry) Welsh Transport Regiment and the Royal Marines.

Also present were the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, The Hon Robin Lewis and his wife Judith; the chairman of the Haverfordwest branch of the Royal British Legion, Ken Humphreys; the vice-chairman of the county council, Clr, David Pugh; and the Mayor of Haverfordwest, Clr. Chris Blakemore.
