In light of continued service cuts by the Local Authority, a Community Council in Pembrokeshire is still having to go down the route of asking for donations to keep its coastal public toilets open.

Amroth Community Council continues to run a webpage inviting people to donate to the cause, with the webpage featuring a dedicated PayPal account for Amroth East toilet donations.

Since April 2024 the only reason that the Amroth East toilet facilities have remained available for use to everyone who visits the seaside village’s beach - is through the very generous agreement by Amroth community residents to pay an additional contribution to the Community Council to allow it to pay Pembrokeshire County Council for the day to day running of the toilets.

For the 2026 season, PCC is charging Amroth Community Council £193 per week.

The Community Council shared on its website: “Amroth Community residents believe it is vital to keep these facilities open in summer, for all who visit our beach and for our RNLI Lifeguards’ use.

“Payments to this account will solely be used for costs involved in maintaining the Amroth East Toilets and will not be used for any other Community Council activities.

At the Community Council’s most recent meeting, further discussions on the onging fundraising were had by members, with a report on the matter to councillors stating:

• New posters have been drafted stating the cost of keeping the toilets open per week and asking for donations.

• A donate button has also been added to the website.

• Focus to look at fundraising activity to reduce cost burden on Council tax payers.

It was also proposed that the Clerk to the Community Council write to caravan sites in the area asking for a donation.
