Mrs. Auriol Richards, of Penally, recently retired after 37 years as clerk to Penally Community Council. It was with great regret that the council accepted her resignation on health grounds after so many years of loyal, dedicated professional service. At a recent dinner to celebrate her retirement, organised by the community council, Mrs. Richards said that there had been many changes since her first council meeting in October 1968. The major change was the Village Hall itself, which had originally been a wooden First World War Nissan hut, but after many years of fund-raising and village activities, of which she had been proud to be part, a new hall had been built. She had seen many changes in county councils and worked with many community councillors, including her father and brother and could honestly say she had never had a cross word with any councillor over the years. She went on to thank Penally's county council representative, Carol Cavill, for always being on the end of the telephone and willing to help with any problem or query. Finally, she thanked everyone for a lovely evening, her husband Paul for putting up with the dining room being used as an office and she wished the new clerk, Vince, all the very best for the future. At the end of a lovely dinner, provided by the Overlander restaurant, Auriol was thanked by the chairman and presented with a bouquet, a cheque and a card signed by the present and many previous councillors who had contributed to the gift. Auriol has many hobbies and interests and she is wished a speedy recovery and a long, happy, healthy retirement.
