Clr. Roy Llewellyn, of Llanboidy, has handed over the reins as chairman of Carmarthenshire County Council. He handed the chain of office to Clr. Dewi Enoch, of Ammanford, who was unanimously chosen as chair for the year 2007-08 at the annual meeting of the council last Thursday. Clr. Hugh Richards, of Felinfoel, was unanimously elected vice-chair. The outgoing chair, Clr. Roy Llewellyn, said: "I have had a very busy, but thoroughly enjoyable year, met so many people and made so many new friends. "I have represented Carmarthenshire at numerous occasions and forged links which I hope will benefit the county in the future." Clr. Llewellyn also thanked colleagues, the chief executive, officers and his wife and family for their support throughout the year and their efforts to help him raise £16,000 for charity - £8,000 for the chemotherapy unit at the West Wales General Hospital at Glangwili, £4,000 to Mencap Llanelli and £4,000 to the new NSPCC branch opened at Johnstown. Tributes were paid to Clr. Llewellyn by council leader Clr. Meryl Gravell, by Clr. Stephen James as deputy leader of the Independents, by Martin Morris as leader of the Labour group and by Neil Baker as leader of the Plaid Cymru group. Clr. Gravell said: "He has been an excellent chair and filled the office with grace and dignity."
