LOCAL campaigner Gareth Jones is standing as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the County Council by election for Pembroke St. Michael Ward on September 20.

Married to Alison, two of their three children already attend Golden Grove School where Gareth is a parent governor. Deputy Mayor of Pembroke Town Council, he currently chairs Pembroke 21C Community Association and is a past chair of the Chamber of Trade.

Gareth was instrumental in setting up the Kids Club based at Golden Grove School.

He has been closely involved in campaigns for children's play areas and public conveniences, has striven for proper community involvement in the development of the South Quay and has supported SWAT for better local health services. He has established a group that aims to reduce Pembroke's carbon footprint and has also begun work to establish a youth council next year.

Early returns from a survey Gareth circulated to residents last month show satisfaction with refuse collection, but concern about pavements, public toilets, play areas and facilities for teenagers. "Liberal Democrats believe in an open political process", said Gareth, "encouraging people of all ages to voice their opinions which should be listened to so that better decisions are made."
