Tenby Town Council have backed the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's plans for a new lifeboat station on the town's Castle Hill.

Before members at their meeting on Tuesday were two applications from the RNLI: one for a new lifeboat station and associated crew facilities to house one of the new generation of FSB2 lifeboats scheduled to come to Tenby, and the other to demolish the existing lifeboat station and slipway on completion of the new station.

"I think all councillors who attended the recent presentation by the RNLI at the De Valence would agree that the new lifeboat station should be supported," commented Clr. Stuart Fecci. "I recommend no objection."

Clr. Mickey Folland agreed.

"This demonstrates that the RNLI is moving into the 21st century and the new lifeboat should be welcomed," he said.

Members were concerned, however, about the application to demolish the existing slipway, feeling it may preclude any redevelopment of the boathouse.

Clr. Fecci said that he had heard several proposals for the old boathouse, but it was pointed out that the council could not make a determination on 'hearsay' only on the application before them.

"If something else is proposed for the old slipway and station, it is up to us to consider it at the relevant time," pointed out Clr. Andrew Rees.

It was agreed that the council offer no objection to the application.

Among other planning applications considered for recommendation to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority were the following:

Mr. S. Sharma, Clifton Rock, Greenhill Road, Tenby - Kitchen and bathroom alterations and porch (no objections).

Mrs. F. Petsch, 15 St. David's Close, Tenby - Application for felling or hard pruning of sycamore tree (no objections).

Mr. and Mrs. R. Grigg, Norton House, The Norton, Tenby - Finish north and south elevations on Norton House with hung slate (no objections).
