Last Friday saw Finals Night take place at the RFC, with some excellent darts being thrown. The night kicked off with the 1001 play-off between the RFC A and the Taf in a one-off match, and it was the RFC A who took the honours with a comfortable win. Next saw the Parcylan A seal a straight 3-0 win over the Angel Llan in the 1001 knockout. The Jolly Challenge produced a bit of an upset, with the Parcylan B defeating the RFC B 3-1 in the semi- finals and the Ivy Bush beating the Taf by the same score. The final went down to the wire, with the Ivy Bush pinching it on the last game 3-2. The husband and wife combo of Neil and Cheryl Jolly (Ivy Bush B) both had a good night, with Neil beating Gavin Smith (RFC A) 3-0 in the vice- captains, while in the ladies, Cheryl gained the same score in a win over Debbie Jones (RAOB B). The landlords saw Adam Kelly (Parcylan) chalk up a 3-0 win over Kelly James (Ivy Bush). The doubles semi-finals saw Jeff and Jason Jones (RFC C) claim a good scalp by beating Ray Spencer and Kim Llewellyn (Taf), while Chris Jenkins and Martin Thomas (Taf) made the final with a win over Clive Jones and Steve Evans (RFC A). The final was a great match, with the pair from the Taf taking the title with a close 3-2 win. The last eight of the singles saw an unusual draw, with the top half all from the Taf and the bottom half all from the RFC. Losing semi-finalists were Gavin James (RFC A), who lost out to team-mate Gavin Smith (RFC A), and an unlucky Ray Spencer (Taf), who came up against Martin Thomas on great form. The final was a slightly nervous affair, but in the end Martin Thomas ran out the deserved winner. Achievements on the night came from Neil Jolly (Ivy B) 114 out, Gavin James (RFC A), 20 darts, Gavin Smith (RFC A) 19 and 20 darts, Jeff Jones (RFC A) 109 out and two 180s, Ray Spencer (Taf) two 17 darters and two 180s, and finally Martin Thomas (Taf) 19, 17, 15 and 14-dart finishes and a 180. Many thanks to all the staff of the RFC, Dicky Morris for organising the boards, and Wyn Phillips on the microphone. Everyone is now looking forward to the presentation night, which takes place on Saturday, May 26, at 7.30 pm. See you all there.
