From the heron-priested shores of Dylan Thomas's famous town Laugharne, the voices of the Corran Singers have now been captured on CD. On Friday, April 27, the choir held a Cheese and Wine Evening at the Laugharne RFC clubhouse to launch their first recording. To open the evening, the choir sang three items from the CD which were enjoyed by everyone. The recording was made in the Congregational Chapel in Laugharne by Winterton Studios, New Hedges. The CD, 'Every Morning When I Wake', has been speeding to all four corners of the British Isles, over the sea to America and Australia, and of course, to Brittany, with which the choir has very special links. Two years ago, the choir visited Pipriac in Brittany, singing in Pampoint Abbey and Pipriac Church, where they received a wonderful welcome. Following their successful visit in 2005, the choir are returning next year for an extended tour where they will sing at three different venues in Brittany. The 40-plus strong mixed choir are uniting with Whitland Male Voice on Friday, June 1, at the Millennium Hall, Laugharne, at 7.30 pm, for a Musical Evening to raise funds for the Alzheimers Association. Tickets for this event are available from both choirs. CDs are also available from all choir members. The choir practices every Thursday at the Congregational Chapel in Laugharne at 7.30 pm. Anyone interested in joining the choir, please go along or telephone Mrs. Heather Jenkins on 01994 427908. The choir is always willing to help any fund-raising ventures, and members hope that the public enjoy their first CD. The choir will also lead the community singing in the chapel on Sunday, August 5, at 7.30 pm.
