Eagle-eyed film buffs will recognise a familiar young musician on a new release out nationwide today (Friday).

For 17-year-old A-Level student Corey Morris, of Tenby, is the head trumpeter in the orchestra of the new Hunky Dory film.

Directed by Marc Evans and produced by Jon Finn, of Billy Elliott fame, Hunky Dory stars Minnie Driver, Aneurin Barnard and Danielle Branch.

Hunky Dory is a touching coming-of-age drama mixed with a 'let's put on a show right here' musical.

Vivienne (Minnie Driver) is the keen drama teacher at a regular secondary school in Swansea in the mid-70s.

One burning hot summer she decides that rather than put on yet another production of Oliver, she will try and inspire the kids to do a musical version of The Tempest, with music they really love.

But can she pull it off when, quite apart from the heat, they seem more interested in getting off with each other?

A student at Greenhill School where he is a member of the school orchestra, wind band, symphony and jazz band, as well as the county orchestra, three counties orchestra, and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama JMAS orchestra, Corey applied for the role after seeing an advertisement for musicians.

He was delighted to be accepted following a successful audition at Cardiff's Millennium Centre and spent many months recording the soundtrack at Cardiff Bay, before going on set, in Swansea, last summer.

Corey is one of three trumpeters in the orchestra and has a solo role in one of the songs, Sea Breezes.

He was also delighted to be invited to the film premier in Cardiff last week where he got to meet the stars and his fellow orchestral members again.

"It was really good fun and an excellent experience," said Corey, who is also organ scholar at St. Mary's Church, Tenby.

"There were about 30-40 of us in the orchestra from all over Wales and the UK and it was great to catch-up with everyone again last week. We had to have a lot of patience, but having seen the premier, the film looks really good and the music of course is awesome!"

As well as the film being screened from this weekend, the soundtrack is out for purchase or download now too.

What's more, when rising Welsh actor Aneurin Barnard, who plays pupil Davey, was interviewed by Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams on BBC Breakfast on Wednesday, one of the clips on the film they showed included Corey's solo!

Corey is the son of Paul and Julie Morris and sister of Lucy, who is in her second year of a performing arts degree at Bath Spa University.
