As the All Wales Convention marks the first anniversary of the inaugural meeting of its executive committee this month, it also has started the countdown to the end of the Convention's devolution debate. That is why by August 21 the Convention wants to receive submissions of opinions from members of the public on whether the National Assembly for Wales should be given more law-making powers - a mere six weeks away.
Although the Convention's public event tour of Wales has drawn to a close, the final event having been held in Cardiff's City Hall at the end of June, there are still a number of ways to participate in the debate, including an opportunity to join the Convention's Facebook group, to Twitter online or to feedback your thoughts via the Convention's online forum at http://www.allwalesconvention.org">www.allwalesconvention.org. If you're more traditionally inclined, you can also telephone the Convention on 029 2089 8187 or write to them c/o the National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff, CF99 1NA.
Pembrokeshire's All Wales Convention executive committee member Joan Asby said: "I am amazed at how much effort we have had to put into clarifying the current system, not just for ourselves, but in order to better explain it to others.
"This aspect has been far more time consuming than I expected, but I am very pleased that we have made the effort because I do think we have highlighted that it is important that as many people as possible have an understanding of the governance that affects their daily lives."
Chair of the Convention, Sir Emyr Jones Parry, added, "There's still time left to have your say in the devolution debate. It's not too late yet, but I would urge anybody who wants to participate but who hasn't done so, to give the matter priority now. Despite other pressures, if you have points to make, especially with summer now upon us, please let us have them very quickly.
"I've been greatly encouraged by the feedback we've received so far. Around 1,700 members of the public have had their say at our roadshows and public events tour of Wales. Over 400 organisations, schools, politicians and individuals have given evidence at our formal sessions. We've also distributed over 55,000 leaflets the length and breadth of Wales informing people of how to get involved.
"It doesn't matter how you communicate with us, just as long as you do so before it's too late! Remember to get in touch before August 21 - it's only six weeks away and counting!"
