Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Conservatives have selected Simon Hart as their prospective parliamentary candidate for the next general election.

The 44-year-old father of two from Narberth won an overwhelming majority at an open primary meeting held at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf in Whitland, attended by nearly 250 members of the public.

Stephen Crouch, chairman of the local Conservative association, said: "We are delighted to have such a strong local candidate to fight this seat at the next general election. People followed their head and voted for Hart."

Welsh Conservative Assembly Member Angela Burns said: "Following our win here in May, Simon is excellently placed to win this seat at Westminster. I look forward to working with him and all those who believe it is time for a change."

Simon Hart said: "I am delighted to have been selected by such an overwhelming vote by not only members of the Conservative Association, but also by those who attended the largest open primary held so far in Wales."
