CONGRATULATIONS to Joe Bennett, who celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday, with plenty of merriment provided by staff and residents at the Old Rectory Care Home, Gumfreston, for the special occasion. Born in Manchester, Joe has been a resident at the Tenby home for over five years. He was a publican in his home town until he retired aged 65, having run a pub just outside the Royal Exchange Theatre, which was frequented by many celebrities, including the likes of Ken Dodd. Joe, who has one son, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, moved to Tenby after his retirement, living in the town's Hanover Court. On the day, as well as receiving a telegram from the Queen, he was visited by chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. John Thomas, who wished him a happy birthday. He also received a letter of congratulations from Stockport County FC, who he has supported for over 70 years, and one from Manchester Grammar School, where he is a member of the Old Boys Association. As part of the day's celebrations at the Old Rectory, afternoon entertainment was provided by singer Robbie Lee, while a buffet supper was enjoyed in the evening by residents of the home and also clients from Tenby Day Centre.

Joe Bennett celebrates his 100th birthday along with Old Rectory proprietor Rosemary Whittemore, senior carers Yasmin Reilly and Lyn France, carer Kerry Strangward, and Margaret Thomas from Tenby Day Centre.
