THE newly-formed Narberth Talespinners drama group gets off to a very bright start with their production of Alan Ayckbourn's 'Confusions' on February 14, 15 and 16, at the Queen's Hall, Narberth.

'Confusions' is actually five short one-act plays linked together - and being Ayckbourn you can expect some achingly funny lines throughout. Each play, while having very funny moments, also has more tragic undertones in the interaction between the characters, as it explores eccentricity, loneliness and other human dilemmas.

We meet, to begin with, the mother who seems unable to escape using baby talk when she comes into conversation with her neighbours. Her husband, a fashion salesman, appears in the next play as a sad character always trying it on with any woman he meets in the hotel he regularly stays at. In the restaurant we explore two couples trying to come to terms with each other as they discover their partners have been unfaithful. One of the wives turns up again in the fourth play, when she is called on to open a garden fete that seems doomed to fail almost from the time the first tent peg is knocked in. And, finally, in the last play, we meet five characters summing up aspects of their lives as they chat together on park benches.

It has been a good few years since there was a drama group based in Narberth. The Talespinners were formed last October and have the great benefit of being based at the Queen's Hall, which is undoubtedly one of West Wales' premier venues.

The group has attracted a number of experienced actors who have played a wide variety of roles in plays and musicals throughout Pembrokeshire and further afield. Talespinners is also keen on attracting new talent and several newcomers already have joined the group.

Anyone interested in join in, either acting or backstage, is invited to call Paul Mathias on (01834) 860858.
