Pembrokeshire County Council's senior environmental health officer, Sarah Oliver, is to meet with Tenby Town Council to outline the different licences required for street trading.

Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, told members of the town council that there had been several problems this summer over street traders and people with hawkers and peddlers licences.

She admitted that it was a very confusing situation as to where people with hawkers and peddlers licences stood, as it varied from county to county.

The county council did not issue licences, as this was the remit of the police. However, Dyfed-Powys Police did not issue such licences, therefore any licences being used would have been issued in another area.

However, the town council had a byelaw banning trading on the streets anywhere in Tenby and councillors could ask the police to move people on under this byelaw, Clr. Mrs. Brown explained.

"There were a lot of complaints from traders and residents this summer because the street traders were becoming a nuisance," she said.

"In light of the byelaw, the police have been told that we, as town councillors, can ask them to move people on," added Clr. Mrs. Ward.

Mrs. Oliver would be attending to outline all the legalities to town councillors so they would be in a position to know the circumstances in which they could ask the police to move a street trader on.
