Sir,
Last Saturday, a seat donated by Paul and Beverley Harries was placed in position to replace a seat donated by the late Miss Lee Davies in Northfield Road, Narberth. This seat was in memory of their daughter Shelley. The original one was demolished in a car accident.
The lady who owns the bungalow there replaced the old wall with a good stone wall.
The council, thinking the place where the old seat was sited was in their guardianship, asked if anyone would like to donate a seat, to help the citizens of the Sunny Bank, Williams Court, Bloomfield area to have a rest while walking up and down the road.
The town council were approached by Mr. and Mrs. Harries, the offer accepted and, providing the seat nor plaque touched the wall, it was set in place on Saturday.
Late on Saturday afternoon, the lady rang the town clerk to complain about the plaque being there; she wanted it removed immediately.
After contacting Mr. and Mrs. Harries, their decision was to take the whole seat away. It has been placed in Spring Gardens, for all to enjoy (it is not the town council's responsibility to replace the seat).
The memory of Shelley is very dear in our hearts. She was our town crier and loved by all, a testimony to this being the donations given by all her friends.
Clr. Colin Williams,
Mayor of Narberth.
