There has been confusion amongst members of the SEPCHN and in the community over the recent decision of the Community Health Council to support the Hywel Dda Health Board plans to move the Minor Injury provision from the Tenby Cottage Hospital to the GP surgeries.

Whilst the CHC has stated that the new service will need to be available at weekends, for a short time, and Bank Holidays, local GP practices have until now opposed such a transfer. So it is not clear what the situation is.

If the proposal is now agreed, could it mean the closure of the purpose-built unit, the loss of specialist equipment such as the X-ray machine, the service of specialist emergency nurse practitioners, and a further cut back in opening hours?

SEPCHN is aware that the town council is writing to the health board and GP surgeries asking for a meeting in order that the community can be kept properly informed and are then able to discuss these views and proposed actions.
