A dismayed disabled badge holder has written to Pembrokeshire County Council to criticise what she has deemed as unclear signage in Tenby's multi-storey car park.

Linda Maughan, of Ashton under Lyne, Tameside, says she feels she was caught out and doesn't want other disabled badge holders to have to pay a penalty fine, too, after she was given a £25 fine for failing to put a parking ticket on her vehicle after parking in one of the multi-storey's disabled bays during a recent visit to the town.

"After taking my holidays in Tenby for many years, I was mortified to receive a parking ticket in the multi-storey car park," she wrote.

"The signage alongside the bay I was in does not state anywhere on the notice that a payment is due when parking in a disabled bay.

"Had this been clearly stated I would have used the pay and display machine as instructed.

"I am very disappointed that I have been issued with this penalty notice.

"I feel this is a further stress being placed on persons with disabled/special needs who rely on the car park to access the local supermarket and shops in Tenby town centre," added Mrs. Maughan, who paid the fine in question.

Giving a response to Mrs. Maughan's views, a spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council said:

"Blue Badge scheme guidance emphasises that Blue Badge holders must check signage in car parks to establish what concessions, if any, apply.

"The conditions board next to the ticket machine makes it clear charges apply to Blue Badge holders in the multi-storey car park in Tenby.

"Charges have been in place for Blue Badge holders since April 2010," added the spokesperson.
