Sir,
I read with interest your article about the heart condition Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
My son-in-law is going to the Heath Hospital in Cardiff on December 2 to have an implant, to hopefully prolong his life, as he has been diagnosed with this condition. His father dropped dead at 41 with a heart attack and on referring to his father's death certificate realised that he had died of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. My son-in-law's medics had not had any patients with this condition, as tragically this is not usually diagnosed until after death.
My son-in-law is 51 and he and my daughter and all of my family have had to live with the stress of what could happen at any time, as all your families have sadly and suddenly had to endure.
I sympathise with all the families who have lost sons or daughters and I congratulate Mrs. Ward and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis for their work to highlight this condition.
I ask all people who have lost a member of their family to a sudden heart attack to be screened, especially the younger generation, as this condition can be heredity.
My grandchildren will be screened during December - this again will be quite a worrying time.
I would like to give any support I can to publicising this tragic heart condition and if I can be supplied with a quantity of postcards, I will distribute them amongst my family and friends.
Margaret Brace (Mrs.)
Devonshire Drive.
