The people of Pembrokeshire once again rose to the occasion and raised over £17,000 for charity during two sell-out concerts at Folly Farm on July 11 and 12. Organised by Chevron, in association with Folly Farm, the charity weekend once again featured the very popular That'll Be The Day, who performed hits from the 1950s through to the 1980s.
The audience rose to the occasion in more ways than one as the band had them dancing in the auditorium and singing along to hits such as Queen's We Are The Champions and Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones.
Although he has attended previous community events, it was Tom Kovar's first Charity Weekend since taking up the post of Chevron refinery's general manager in January. He was joined by a number of dignitaries from the area, including vice- chairman of PCC, Clr. Anne Hughes, and the Mayors of Tenby, Narberth, Haverfordwest, Pembroke and Milford Haven, all of whom enjoyed the evening. "We had a fantastic couple of nights. Everyone joined in and had a great time and in the process raised a lot of money for charity," said Kovar. "In fact, they were so good, we've already invited them back next year. Well done to everyone involved." The money raised over the two nights will be split between the Wales Air Ambulance and the NSPCC. "This is an important year in the history of Wales Air Ambulance as we strive to upgrade each of our three helicopters by 2009 in line with new legislation. The £8,000 raised will help us take a large step towards meeting the £4 million a year target it will cost to run the service and ensure we continue to save lives across Wales," said Rhodri Davies, regional fund-raising manager for the charity. "We would like to thank Phil Thompson and the Chevron team for hosting another successful and highly entertaining show. It is wonderful to be associated with such a prestigious event in the Pembrokeshire area, where we are strongly supported and whose community we continue to serve," added Davies. Chevron's next two charity events will be concerts by the National Youth Orchestra and Cor Meibion de Cymru. Both events will be held at St. Davids Cathedral on August 5 and 9, respectively.
