A top concert to be held at the Follies Theatre Folly Farm, at 7 pm, on Saturday, November 12, is set to support several leading charities both at home and internationally.
The concert starring top Welsh tenors Rhys Meirion and Trystan Llyr Griffiths with the Whitland and District Male Voice Choir and talented local musicians Sioned Llewelyn, Esyllt Thomas and Aaron Kendall is being promoted by the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland and is looking to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance, the Kidney Wales Foundation, Prostate Cymru, the Paul Sartori Foundation locally and for Shelterbox internationally.
Whilst the work of the local Welsh charities is well-known, with the Wales Air Ambulance, the Kidney Wales Foundation and Prostate Cancer is well documented and of course everyone is sadly too familiar with the important work that the Paul Sarori Foundation do in our county the work of Shelterbox is perhaps not so well known.
Shelterbox was a charity started by the Rotary Club of Helston in Cornwall where they developed a large plastic box, into which a large eight person tent, sleeping bags, cooking equipment and other basic supplies were inserted. Enough to enable a family who had been made homeless by, for example, a natural disaster such as a flood or earthquake to have basic shelter as they tried to rebuild their lives. Even the plastic box proved useful with water purification tablets enabling it to be used as a source for clean water.
The charity has now developed considerably and has international coverage, and whilst aid is still supplied in the boxes it is now given in line with the needs of the recipients and even includes things like basic school supplies.
All the charities to be supported by the concert are very worthy and the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland, who are promoting the concert, would be delighted to see a large crowd there to enjoy what is promising to be an excellent night, whilst at the same time supporting these very worthy causes.

Footnote: To avoid any confusion, please note that the concert is on Saturday, November 12. When first organised, the concert was scheduled for November 19, but the date was changed due to Trystan Llyr Griffith’s unavailabity on that date due to a new opera commitment in Zurich, and the concert was rearranged for Saturday, November 12, at 7 pm.
