Concerns over continued anti-social behaviour in the seaside village of Saundersfoot have been raised with the neighbourhood policing team.

Recently, county councillor for the village’s south ward Cllr Chris Williams highlighted the lack of police presence in the village over the busy summer.

“There haven’t been many days this summer that I have seen officers walking around the village,” Cllr Williams said at the time, adding: “There definitely needs a far greater presence during the busy times.”

Cllr Williams said that he’d conducted a zoom meeting with Chief Inspector Craig Templeton, to not only discuss the closing of Saundersfoot Police Station, but also the smaller stations around Pembrokeshire, stating: “With the sale of the station I do hope that more resources will be put into having officers on the beat.”

He has highlighted matters once again, now stating: “During September I had arranged a meeting locally with the new PCSO Ffion Thomas who is based at Tenby Police Station but covers Saundersfoot along with other officers.

“We chatted about numerous items that concern the residents and we also discussed the anti-social behaviour from a very small group of individuals.

“It has been reported that these are meeting on the lower end of Westfield Road and congregate behind the water station on the old Incline path.

“We had a walk around and attended this area to look why it’s a concern to some of the residents locally. It is quite clear that this is a well-trodden path behind this building and it would appear to be very popular with the amount of litter and other related items that were left on the ground.

“The PCSO was quick to offer her support and would certainly be checking this area as part of her routine in the village,” he continued.

Cllr Williams said that there will be a ‘Police Beat’ surgery meeting in the village once a month, starting in November.

This will be held on the third Wednesday of every month, wit the first meeting to be held on Wednesday, November 15 from 1.45 to 3.15 pm at the Regency Hall.

“This is an opportunity for local residents to discuss any policing matters with the Neighbourhood policing team,” continued Cllr Williams.

“This certainly isn’t new but is a welcome boost to all of the local residents of Saundersfoot.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Saundersfoot Community Council for supporting this initiative and covering the cost of the room for the meeting,” he added.
