Businesses in Amroth are up in arms over the poor timing of enhancement works that are taking place at the seaside village. Pembrokeshire County Council are carrying out an enhancement programme along the resort's front, including the provision of new seating and the renewal of the concrete promenade walkway. Eddie Davies, of The Pirate Restaurant, which is located along the front, is one local who is concerned that the work will affect tourism in the village. "The whole place looks like a construction site at the moment," he stated "We're appalled as to why this work has to be carried out now. Surely there are plenty of months in the year when it could be done. "I can't get my head around the timing of it. The county council are surely trying to promote tourism in Pembrokeshire and this will put people off visiting and stopping off in our resort. "We are a seasonal business and rely on people coming to the area at this time of year and who is going to want to visit when there is an eight-foot high fence blocking the beach and footpath," added Mr. Davies, who has also spoken to county councillor Tony Brinsden on the matter. A spokesperson for the county council confirmed this week that the work was originally due to end by April 21. However, due to unforeseen circumstances it started later than anticipated. "Following complaints from some local businesses and residents, who were concerned about the noise and the timing of the work, it has now been decided to delay replacing the concrete walkway until September. Work on providing new seating near the flagpole area, though, will continue," explained the spokesperson.
